Default 07 Tundra 5.7 transmission

Don't mean to harp on an old subject but today I noticed on several occasions that when applying the brake the transmission downshifted to 4th. gear and would not upshift until I placed the shift lever in "S" position and manually shifted to higher gears. I moved the shift lever back to "D" and all was well until brake was applied again. This happened several times. Anyone else having this happen? I really like the Tundra but hope the irritating problems I read about are isolated. Hope Toyota service is as good as most seem to think. I traded a 2001 Silverado that gave me poor service for my first Toyota about 3 months ago and have been very glad so far.

that is normal if you would have pressed the gas it would have up shifted again .. its just the transmission downshifting to slow the truck down

Did you try applying gas to see if it would upshift? I know that this may sound silly, but the Tundra has a fairly aggressive downshifting system to help maintain speeds on a downhill run, but will then upshift once you apply gas again.

I actually ran the truck up to a fairly high speed and the transmission did not upshift until I placed the shift lever in "S" position then manually upshifted. This is the first time the transmission has downshifted like this. I was on a downgrade at about 60 MPH when I barely touched the brake to hold my speed steady. I had read other posts about the transmission downshifting when brake is applied fairly hard. This has never happened since I bought the truck. Thanks to all for the replies. I will continue to drive the truck for a while and see how it does. It will be due for 5000 mile service soon. I will have the service person check it out.

Did you have the TRAC/VSC "OFF".........If so they will stick in a gear if you have it in "D" ,,, Just put in "S" AND Click it to "6" And you will not have any sticking in a gear issues
