I filled the tank up last night, and looking at my gas calculations, I got 18mpg on my first tank! That is pretty mixed driving, though probably 60% was highway. Still, there was a lot of idling, etc as things were being installed, programmed, explained, etc. A lot of driving on the beltway as well, so, all-in-all its been pretty good. I haven’t mashed the gas pedal yet, but I’ve had to step on it a few times to get in and around traffic. Still that is pretty good for a CM SR5 4x4! I filled up the tank after having gone 358 miles, and didn’t quite hit 20 gallons on the fill up. The truck read that I still had 38 miles left, but I think the 6.4 extra gallons probably would have provided another 120 miles or so… so the 38 miles is probably just until the “warning” light comes on leaving me with approximately 4 gallons left. All-in-all not bad at all… if I really do see better mileage down the road, that will definitely be great! My trade-in seemed to actually max-out in mpg when it reached about 65K miles… after that it was consistently 25.5 mpg average (but having to use the more expensive “premium” gas). I’m glad the Tundra uses just regular…
I was gonna start a new thread but since your talking gas mileage I will post it here.
I found that if I switch off all the traction control stuff(press the traction control button and HOLD it until the lights pop up on the dash while in PARK) and manually shift into 6 on the highway I am now averaging 19-20MPG and I've only got 570 miles on the truck!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm driving about 75MPH!!!!!!!!!!!! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTNESS!!!!
Most of you have probably realized that if you KICK the beast she responds quite nicely...but at the cost of a TREMENDOUS amount of fuel.
I love this truck!!! Best of both worlds!!! Drive like a granny(in Tundra terms that means flowing with traffic) and 19-20MPG...or fly it like a bat outta hell for a little bit of gas money!!!!!!!!
My average was showing 18.3 MPG this morning on the highway. I think driving on a windy day will drop it down though. It gets great mileage when the wind is calm.
Damn...18mpg is what I get in my 2002 M3 (averaged over the last 5000 miles). That's impressive.
You got to admit, if you drive your truck the way you drove the ///M you won't be getting 18mpg on it. I sometimes get 18-19 on a tank on the //M but i have even gotten as high as 22-24 on a tank avg. Are you selling the ///M?

Selling the M? No way. Color combo for the Tundra will be dependent on what I can find with the options I want. Looks like it'll be slate or black with graphite. If I drive the Tundra the way I drive the M I'll be dead.
Before I added a leveling kit to my truck I was getting around 19-20 mpg. Now that I have lifted the truck I have noticed a slight decrease in the mpg. On average I'm getting 17-18. Does anyone know if there is a sensor that may need zeroed because of changing the angle of the vehicle? "ie yaw sensor" If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. The other thing I have noticed is better mpg on 87 octane vs 94 octane. That doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone explain that one? The fuels were from different brand of stations. Thanks in advance.

I'm getting better fuel mileage on higher octane.....I think.
I've changed my driving habits a good bit so I think I will try different octanes again on the next couple of fill ups. By the way...Chevron Premium for me...from a month old station in my neighborhood.

Try turning off the traction control and vehicle stability system. You'll need to shift manually but it works great. Press the traction control button and hold it for 3-4 seconds while parked and you'll see 2 lights pop up on the dash rather than 1.

Possibility. It's like the tailgate up or down debate. It has now been scientifically proven that better aerodynamics are had by the tailgate being closed.

Mythbusters!

For comparison's sake, I'm only getting 13mpg on my first tank. Almost all city though, and at the times of day when I'm on the highway, it's not any faster than driving through the city. I've most definitely floored my truck though... several times.
