Well.. it appears that there's a time limit after which you are unable to edit a post or thread...
Cause I had the intention of adding a major warning to the original thread.
Best I can tell, there's a certain number of times that you can start up the truck with the seatbelt sensor bypassed. After this number of startups, you will be forced to remove the sensor and cycle the slider a few times to reset this.
My guess is somewhere around after 50-100 startups, the airbag will remain off regardless of weight on the passenger side seat. The only way to repair this is to either take the sensor back apart (which, by now, is super easy to do in seconds) and cycle the sensor with the ignition on, or replace the spring.
As I mentioned in the original post... my springs shot out to Pluto...(planet, gas?...whatever) and I've replaced with.... yes.. ball point springs. Took a few attempts at the right size pen though.
I'm currently battling the ignorant dealership to get the chime turned off. My driver's side is remaining un-sprung.
Sucks majorly... but Tundra = 1. Me=0
~ If you're still keeping it unsprung, you should be able to reset this by having the key-ignition on, pop the sensor off and slide the white plastic slider a few times and reassemble. Test it by sitting in the seat with ignition on for 20 seconds or so to ensure that the airbag light turns to ON.
Additionally, I found that the end of my cellphone charger fits PERFECTLY into the hole to disengage the sensor. No tools needed... which is GREAT... when your passenger sits and finds the airbag is OFF.

new to site. had tundras for 13 years. 7 yrs. T100 and 6 yrs. with 01' 4.7 tundra. never had 1 problem with toyota, i guess i've been lucky or maybe this truck is that great. also wife has sequioa, love this suv also, no problems with it. after reading info on seatbelt chime and how annoying it was to everyone, i got to thinking to myself, hell it's annoying to me also. so i decided to solve the problem. i came to work today and took measurements of the seatbelt and went to my computer and programmed it in, went to my haas (milling machine) cut one just like the one in my tundra.
took the part to my truck and put it in and drove down the road to see if there was going to be that annoying chime, all gone in about 1 hour of work. i know seatbelts are for reason, but i ride motorcycles and i believe this should not a law for adults. huh i don't no anymore. just want to know is it against the law to see if anyone else wants them. they just simply knap out it u need to use your seatbelts. any comment are welcome. plus, thanks for all the great info. on this form.
Check my previous post with some pics. If you disable the chime itself, your good to go. No passenger airbag on/off problems, no key chime, and everything functions perfectly. My pics may have made the mod look a little difficult. But, I can assure you it was not a big deal. A couple of snap off panels, a few wiring connectors to unplug, unplugging the dash cover, pulling out the dash gauge assembly and your there. Reverse assemble and that D*mn chime is gone forever!

Forgot to mention. I also lost my first springs when I tried that route and used some out of a fountain pen. They were the same length and diameter. Sorry, I don't know what brand of pen I used since I pitched them in the trash.

Please read the post before disconnecting, this mod also disconnects the airbags! * Disconnecting seat belt chime also disconnects airbags!! *
Please leave the springs alone for your (your family's) safety! I hate to say it but................I TOLD YOU SO!!!!! It is just not worth it to me to know that my driver or pass. airbag will not go off when needed. This is one of the best features the tundra has; front and curtain side airbags. I have read other mods for this, some disconnect chips in dash, some have stuffed cards into the clips, for what it's worth this chime bothered the hell out of me, after finding out this could jeperdise me or my family's safety I have learned to live with it, and wear my seat belt more. The chime does go off in time if you take the belt off, and at least I know my airbags will work if needed!

I only removed my drivers side spring. Does this mean my airbag will not work now? I havn't had any lights come on saying no airbag. Does this only apply to the pass side??
The driver's side bag will activate whether the seat belt is fastened or not so it shouldn't make any difference.
What's screwing up the passenger side is the fact that the seatbelt sensor works in conjunction with the weight sensor which can turn the airbag off if there's no one in the seat or not enough weight such as a child.
What is the trick to putting the spring back inside. I tried for about 5 minutes with needlenose pliers to no avail. Any suggestions???
Yeah, you have to lightly pry the sliding clip off. Once off, insert one end of the spring into the clip and the other onto the "fixed" stop and then slow slide the clip back into place.

Thanks, I was afraid that the plastic piece might break, but it was fairly flexible. Now I don't have to worry about the airbag.
I will be making a trip to the dealer to get that damn passenger seat chime disabled. The flashing light is enough to remind me to make certain that my kids are buckled in if they are with me. I certainly don't need the chime going off time and time again when I have a business associate in the front seat who prefers not to wear a seat belt.
There must be some sort of sequence to disable the chime without going to the dealer. If anyone knows what this might be, please post it.
i took the easy route.
traced the male seat belt part on a piece of plastic the thickness of the buckle , cut it out so it doesn't stick out of the female part. when u press the release be ready because it shoots the piece out. thank goodness no more chimes.
I just ride with the passenger side seatbelt always buckled even if there is no one sitting in the seat. If some one wants to use the seat belt they can just unbuckle it before they get in the truck and then buckle themselves in. This way if I put anything heavy on the seat, the seatbeat is already buckled.
I had removed the springs to get rid of the chimes, but after a couple weeks I noticed the airbag was off when my kids or wife were in the passenger seat. I came back and read through the rest of this thread and I see that this is a problem.
I just don't feel comfortable with it. I put the springs back in and everything is back to normal. As much as I hate the chimes at certain times, it certainly beats having airbag problems. I realize I could probably just put the passenger side back in and leave the drivers side out, but it's just one of those things that would always bother me, so they are in for good.
