The only 6X9 components I found were MB Quart, I hate their tweeters, way too bright for me. Worst case, I can install some Polk tweeters in the dash and clip the wires on the 6X9's tweeters.
to dull out MB's tweets...you can wrap it in speaker grill cloth before install...don't run different speaks with each other due to the cross overs...unless it's the same brand...IMO...
Great post, helped me tackle a job that I probably never would have done myself. One thought, make sure you put the door panel back on from the top first and then try and snap in the bottoms....you know the same way you took it off . I sort of forgot this step at first and ended up shaving part of the speaker surround on the door panel off because I thought my speaker was too big. You can't tell when its attached but still...its easier not to do that.
Thanks again, oh and it sound so much better just from that minor change!
did this tonight on the rear doors. The tutorial was nice, easy to do.
Only problem I had was; I had some nice components, some old reaudio 6.5". unforunetly (for this install) they have a phase plug attached to the cone, which with bass above -4 (on stock stereo) hits the speaker grill on the door. I guess i'll have to find some other speakers.
So.
NOTE : Phase plugs mounted to a moving cone will hit the speaker grill on the door panel and make a nasty tapping sound.
What's the general opionion on the factory 6-disk stereo by itself as a unit? I want to keep my dash as stock as possible when I do my system upgrades and would rather not have to buy a new stereo when I do. I want to upgrade all my speakers and might add an amp and subwoofer. Sirius is also a must.
Speaking of subwoofers, I have the underseat tool box and I need it, so is there a good subwoofer that will still fit back there (anywhere) and how can I mount it (perferably behind the seats)? Any suggestions?
I just installed 6x9s in the front. Installation went fine. Speakers don't sound great. I have two questions....
1. Could the speakers be "out of phase". In other words, I went with the adapters that allow me to avoid cutting the factory harness in the door. Perhaps they have it backwards although I know this is unlikely.
2. Is sounds like there are speakers in the dash that are part of the front speaker "loop". If ther are "stinkers" like the ones I removed, that could be the issue. the net net is that the sound isn't any better.
FYI, I installed a new Sony Head unit a while ago which was a HUGE improvement...
the clarions im planning on installing in my doors have a seperet tweeter. im going to pull them out of my old truck. i dont remember how big the magnet is though. hope they fit.
