I just made this work with only one coaster!!! It seems to unlock everything including phone functions.

I followed the instructions exactly the first time, but I either burned it too fast or didn't configure Nero correctly.

The second try was successful and for this I used the ImgBurn software to burn the DVD directly and selected a slower write speed. Other than that the instructions worked perfectly for me.

Thanks for a great post Joe!!!

Does anyone know what the MOST recent version of the Navi Software happens to be? I want to make sure my truck gets the most up to date maps before I take delivery.

Well I gave it a try and the old firmware loaded correctly, override was functional, but map data access was not.

So I could see the screen correctly and all functions worked when v6.1 was loaded (so when I tested the disc) but after the battery disconnect and the downgrade to 5.1 the map functions no longer worked. For example pressing destination then address or any other function gave me an error no map data...

Any thoughts?

The procedure which has worked for me several times (both 5.1/6.1 hybrid and 7.1 backup) is to: 1) Copy all files to a hard drive folder (replace whatever file is necessary); 2) Use ImgBurn Mode->Build function to create an .iso image file (default settings) on the hard drive; 3) Use Nero to burn the .iso image to a dual-layer DVD (default setting). It takes about 40 minutes at 2.4X.

Do the 2008 Toyota's and Lexus' have the same Nav?

I've created the hybrid disc but my 2008 Lexus will not load the 5.1 firmware from the disc.
If the car is on and I swap the discs, the system can read the maps and POIs from the hybrid disc so it seems the disc is sort of working.
If I remove the fuse for 10 minutes, the system doesn't load the disc. When I put back the original 7.1 disc, it loads the 7.1 firmware and continues working.

Has anyone had their 2008 load the 5.1 firmware? Is the 2008 unit still a Gen5?

thanks.

Did anyone have problems with reading the original v6.1 DVD? I have tried it on several computers and they all give me a please insert disk error.

Just want to add that my 08 NAV is running on a hybrid dvd. The directions posted in this thread make it very easy to create the hybrid dvd. I bought six dl dvds anticipating a few coasters but the first dvd that I made worked. I now have to hit the "I agree" button but that is a small price to pay for having the NAV unlocked.

I encourage anyone who has not done this mod to do so. There is no need to pay anyone for the hybrid dvd, it is very easy to do it yourself.

Regards,

I won't speak for cliff, but I have successfully made hybrids with both 6.1 and the 7.1 using the 5.1 loading file.

Just get the Willee SPG and you don't have to hit agree if you have the 7.1 DVD and you don't have to go into the setup each time you want to use all the functions and turn the truck off for a second just flip a simple switch. And you don't have to make a new DVD each time there a update just get the DVD and pop it in and your good to go again for the future.

Thats just my .02

Personally, I like the idea of simply swapping out a disc and being done. I don't like the idea of taking the dash apart and hacking wiring. I don't like an extra switch on the dash and I also don't like how the cursor behaves when the switch is activated and the VSS is disabled. I also like that the hybrid disc I have that has ALL of the latest maps and POIs. I also like the fact that at the drop of a hat I can swap discs and there's NO sign what-so-ever that anything was ever done. Or, if you're not concerned about returning the map disc just sell the OEM disc to get plenty of extra cash. I also like that disc works in way more vehicles than the switch. I also thought I read that with the switch you can't access the phone controls but I may be mistaken on that.

I'm just saying... there are pros and cons to both and every coin has two sides.

I'm also not sure how a couple posts on the switch thread get deleted because they are off topic yet there are posts on the hybrid map disc thread about the switch that seem to be fine. I don't see why ANY of the posts on either thread need to be deleted as either one yields similar results.
