I'm also not sure how a couple posts on the switch thread get deleted because they are off topic yet there are posts on the hybrid map disc thread about the switch that seem to be fine. I don't see why ANY of the posts on either thread need to be deleted as either one yields similar results.
I deleted the posts because they were asking for a pissing match and I wanted it nipped in the bud before anyone got the chance to start.
The guy has a specific issue and the posts I deleted did not help his issue at hand.
He needs solutions, not "you should have just done the disc mod in the 1st place". It's rude and offensive to the OP, and to the SPG creator.

6.1 with the 5.1 loading Kiwi... I followed the directions and actually burned the disc with ImgBurn and it worked for me the first time! Thanks for the great post!!
By the way, can we do the same steps to unlock 7.1 ?
Bob
Yes, you can unlock the 7.1 disc with the 5.1 loading file by following the exact same steps.
I've done it successfully and the disc is in my truck.

Does anyone know if this will work on an '08 Tundra with the 7.1 software?
And if so does Bluetooth still work?
Thx!
Yes to both questions, it will work just fine.

I have tried twice and the disks are not readable in the NAV unit but they are identical when examined using the computer. I think it might be related to by DVD burner (maybe).
I would like to try to compile so information to see if there are any common things that make this work or not work. My NAV unit says "checking disk" and then comes back with cannot read disk. My Tundra is a 2008 and it is a factory installed NAV/backup camera screen/radio unit.
Could anyone who has successfully done this provide the following info:
Brand of DVD Burner
Software used to Burn disk
Firmware version of NAV disk provided with unit
Size of LOADING.KIWI file
I have even tried a disk from a 2008 Avalon NAV unit that has the 7.1 data and it wouldn't read it (even without resetting the firmware). It said "Checking DVD" and then came back with an error. Did Toyota make the newer versions check the DVD against some other thing in the system before allowing it to read the data? The data on the two discs (Tundra and Avalon) are otherwise identical when I look at them file by file on the computer. FYI - the Avalon LOADING KIWI is approx 89K is sze. The two LOADING KIWI mentioned in this thread are 48K and 45K approximately. If you have gotten this to work, which size file did you use?
For anyone else out there trying, I don't have a good explanation for why it worked but these are my observations:
1st + 2nd try was with a Dell laptop, external burner. Followed instructions exactly as listed in post 1. Didn't work. Tried doing everything, including burning the DVD on IMGBURN, no success. Would even read the disc. Was using Memorex media.
3rd try with Memorex media (same media vas before), but different computer. It worked. This time, I did the following:
1) Copy all files from disc onto desktop into a new folder (v7.1 in my case)
2) Downloaded loading.kwi from this thread
3) replaced the "original" loading.kwi with the one from this thread
4) Used IMGBURN to "build" an image of the files in the new folder (e.g., v7.1 ) using default settings as downloaded and installed. Selected UDF label and used hybridnav as the name (for example). The tricky part was getting all the files into the selection list. I first tried to just select all the files and folders using the program but it can be a little tricky (meaning for some reason, when you select a folder, it may not? select the files in the subdirectories). I tinkered around with a variety of ways to do this. Can't remember exactly what I did, but I think I opened up the v7.1 folder from the desktop, then selected all the files (i.e. point + click with the shift button) and dragged then over the imgburn window. Named the image file hybridnav (at the program produced hybridnav.iso and hybridnav.mds)
5) Then burned the image to disc using IMGBURN. Didn't mess with book type, etc, .... Just used default settings. Selected hybridnav.mds and it did the rest.
Worked first time using this method. Operating system was Vista, Computer was a new HP laptop. I suspect the whole issue is simply hardware. Some burners work, some don't. (I don't know who makes HP's burner). For those trying, you're probably doing it right. Just try a different computer and burner. I spent two nights working on this using the previous computer. Changed computers and did the above, worked first time.
I have not tried this yet, but I may give it a shot just to see the difference. But for those of you have troubles with some of the disks failing and other working using the exact same steps, here is a suggestion.
When you are ready to burn the ISO image onto the new DL DVD, change your write speed to the lowest possible (Probably 2x). This seemed to fixed any of my problem when making backup copys of my regular DVD movies. It just seems to write the data to the disk better, and less of a chance to catch a skip in the writing process.
