For those of you that have done this downgrade (I just burnt a 5.1 / 7.1 hybrid) which seems to load up and work in my Truck (Have not reset NAV)
Do you loose any data? (saved locations, contacts and/or maintenance items?) and if you pulled the fuse vs. disconnecting the battery, which fuse is it?
will lose radio presets as far as I can tell. All nav info remains. 15amp fuse under hood, it's labled on the underside of the fuse box lid. This is a very cool upgrade!

Based on what I understand, I think being able to have my wife enter/change our route or MP3 folder etc.. all far out weighs having to hit "agree". With my new hybrid DVD in my truck, the maps etc all seem to work. I just need to reset it now.
I assume the same procedure applies if I want to go back to 7.1 pure DVD?

When I reinserted the 7.1 it reloaded completely, no fuse removal or power loss required. To go back to thy hybrid you have to lose the power. Needless to say I use the 5.1/7.1 exclusively. Pushing the "I agree" is now second nature.

Well all seems like it's working. I reset the radio by pulling the 15a fuse labeled "Radio 1" under the hood. Loaded up v6.1 and requires the "accept" at first start.
I didn't even burn one coaster :-) I did end up having to burn the new image (used poweriso) on my laptop because my Lite-on burner didn't like the media I bought. I bought a 15 pack of DVD+R DL Memorex DVD's at Office Depot Saturday for 8.99 which is what prompted this whole thing!
With PowerISO, there is no way to select DVD-ROM or anything, I just used default settings.
I have a 2008 Tundra and I would like to try this solution. Anyone make an extra hybrid disk that they have laying around? Let me know.... Thanks!
its pretty easy to do yourself but if not there was a member here awhile back willing to help out....I do not remember who but you can either scan this thread or hope for the pm...
For anyone else out there trying, I don't have a good explanation for why it worked but these are my observations:
1st + 2nd try was with a Dell laptop, external burner. Followed instructions exactly as listed in post 1. Didn't work. Tried doing everything, including burning the DVD on IMGBURN, no success. Would even read the disc. Was using Memorex media.
3rd try with Memorex media (same media vas before), but different computer. It worked. This time, I did the following:
1) Copy all files from disc onto desktop into a new folder (v7.1 in my case)
2) Downloaded loading.kwi from this thread
3) replaced the "original" loading.kwi with the one from this thread
4) Used IMGBURN to "build" an image of the files in the new folder (e.g., v7.1 ) using default settings as downloaded and installed. Selected UDF label and used hybridnav as the name (for example). The tricky part was getting all the files into the selection list. I first tried to just select all the files and folders using the program but it can be a little tricky (meaning for some reason, when you select a folder, it may not? select the files in the subdirectories). I tinkered around with a variety of ways to do this. Can't remember exactly what I did, but I think I opened up the v7.1 folder from the desktop, then selected all the files (i.e. point + click with the shift button) and dragged then over the imgburn window. Named the image file hybridnav (at the program produced hybridnav.iso and hybridnav.mds)
5) Then burned the image to disc using IMGBURN. Didn't mess with book type, etc, .... Just used default settings. Selected hybridnav.mds and it did the rest.
Worked first time using this method. Operating system was Vista, Computer was a new HP laptop. I suspect the whole issue is simply hardware. Some burners work, some don't. (I don't know who makes HP's burner). For those trying, you're probably doing it right. Just try a different computer and burner. I spent two nights working on this using the previous computer. Changed computers and did the above, worked first time.
Very easy.
I did it this way and it worked Good. I actually burned a few becuase the first one i tried burned fine, but i forgot the step to go in to the volume setting and hit over ride. So i have a few extra of these *Hint Hint* anyone...
Thanks guys wish we could use the DVD player for the nav to play movies now...
