Default Ford/Dodge Despair

I saw a commercial from Ford, they want you to come in and test drive one of their vehicles for a week!
And out of desperation, Dodge is offering a first ever, lifetime warranty on their powertrain!
The Tundra's a good thing for consumers, even if you don't own one. It should be interesting how the Truck Horse Power War turns out in a couple years.

Ya. So much for Ford not feeling threatened by the Tundra. Between the new TV commerical with stoping the 30,000lb. airplane and a radio advertisement I heard about the Ford's frame strength and the 2nd guy said "Ya, but I have 2 glove boxes" It easy to see there gearing they advertising right at the Tundra.

Desparation?

If Toyota offered a lifetime warranty then you guys would say it is because they stand by thier product but if Dodge does it then it's desparation.

I sure know I'd take a lifetime warranty if given the chance.

I'm feeling let down by toyota, it seems I wont be able to stop a run away plane with my Tundra, I'm going to call the dealership and complain that this feature was not offered. Come on people now when and where on Gods green earth have you or will you ever have the need for this. Ford has dropped to a new low for thre time being I'm sure they'll drop lower, between rigged test tracks at 40mph and now advertising you can stop a plane...........

We need to read the "fine print" on that Dodge lifetime warranty. How much deductible, etc?????? They seem to have had many tranny problems over the years.
A friend had a Dodge 1500 with brake problems well within the 36K warranty and had issues with Dodge taking care of it. He has a 08 F350 now but that may not be the answer to warranty issues??????

Actually there is not as much fine print on there as you would think. I was looking at a Mega Cab at the same time I was looking at the Tundra. In the end, I just couldn't bring myself to buy a Chrysler product even with a lifetime warranty . Basically to sum up the warranty: it is non-transferable. This weeds a lot of trucks out since they don't keep vehicles that long. Second, you have to bring in the vehicle every 60,000 miles to have them check everything out. This is done at no charge. Third, you have to be able to PROVE that you had the minimum maintenance done on the vehicle at the proper intervals and with the proper products. In my opinion this would be very hard to do unless you had all your service done at the dealership. It almost smells of a variation of the "free tires for life" scam that come dealerships run. But that's just my opinion.

Its only on select models and there are maintenance and verification requirements as well as it being non-transferrable. It may sound good on the surface, but it also virtually "kills" the used vehicle value since even a relatively new truck will not have a powertrain warranty if it is traded in. It only works if you keep the truck a long time (which I hope people would do) and record and the powertrain's health at specific intervals. I'm not saying it is bad, but it isn't great either... too many conditions and the non-transferrable part is a big knock to the offering...

Kind of off topic but speaking of new advertising, has anyone seen the latest Titan commercial? They are really pushing the "fully boxed frame unlike some competitors C-channel frames". Of course they have a demonstration to show how strong the frame is. It seems to me that if the frame won't flex other components will give under load. Besides, many three quarter tons have an open C-channel. EVERYONE seems to be targeting their ads at the Tundra. It definitely says to me that Toyota did something right

Perhaps it was targeted towards the F-150's boxed frame. It's all BS anyway, they're not TRUE demonstrations. It's TV. Although, Nissan's commercials are a bit more entertaining. I like the one for the Hiesman race, but I havn't actually seen a Titan in a while.

That Ford commercial actually has the words "Actual Braking Demonstration" on it. Unfortunately for Ford besides the concept being stupid theres no tag about the length it stopped it in. Guess what Ford? A Focus will eventually stop a 30,000lb plane, because the plane will lose momentum and eventually stop. The next Tundra commercial I would love to see:

Tundra, stops a 30,000lb plane 'x number of feet' shorter than the F-150.

I don't understand why you would bring attention to a part of your truck that isn't class leading. The two new Tundra commercials that aired on CBS yesterday were pretty good.

Havn't seen the new Tundra commercials or the Ford one. I'll do some YouTubing.
