I have a Blackberry 8300 which is compatible with the Bluetooth in my Tundra. Recently I've had problems with 1) the microphone in the truck cutting out and people not hearing me well or at all, even though I can hear them fine, or 2) the Bluetooth radio in the phone has a defect and is cutting out. Has anyone else heard of this? Is this something the dealer can diagnose? I'm just not sure if it is the truck or the phone...it works fine sometimes, other times not.
Hey, that happened to me too. I'm pretty sure that the radio volume controls the microphone. I called my wife about ten times trying to diagnose the problem. Each time she could barely hear me but I could hear her plain as day. I had turned the radio down for some reason and when i turned it back up to a normal level, she could hear me fine. Even with the radio off the volume that you had it on last (before you turned it off) is what the mic volume is at.
By the way, I have the factory NAV w/blutooth.
Hope this helps.
Mike
I've noticed that my bluetooth connection gets static-y in certain areas, like where power lines cross, etc. I can hear a low roaring sound in the background and the person on the other end can't hear me anymore. When I switch to handset, we can hear each other fine. It often happens in the same places on my way home from work. I've tried repositioning my blackberry from my hip to the dash, the console, the overhead console, etc, with little or no improvement.
A couple of times I've been on the Bluetooth talking with the other party hearing me just fine, then at the same place I've gone under a bridge and suddenly the other person couldn't hear me at all. Switched to the handset and they could hear me fine on that.
I've had it happen with the radio volume up high, down low, or with the radio turned off. I'm taking the truck in for service to the dealer next week so I'm going to see if they can diagnose anything. If they do I'll post it. Thanks for the replies.
Does anyone have a solution? My mic is completely dead on calls, but I can hear people fine. It used to work fine until recently. I don't think it's a defective mic as the voice activated dialing works fine.
I have 8800, works just fine.
However there was a period, when I was getting disconnected after 10-15 minutes, and I noticed that it was not related to the area that I'm driving through.
So I called T-mobile support and they were able to reset the phone, since then no dropped calls. Plus there is a function on BB to turn the phone on and off automatically, somehow that help to keep BB free of bugs. Mine set to be turned off at night at after couple minutes it powers up.
Try to reset the BB trough support and the radio by yourself (disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes or so), I think it should help.

Does anyone know how to listen to music you have on the BB over your stereo, can you transmit music via bluetooth or do you need a wire from the phone to the AUX input.
Sorry to derail. To the original questioner: my mic works fine all the time. But sometimes I leave the truck on and get out, and my phone rings but when I try to answer it I can't talk -- because they're talking to an empty truck and of course the mic is in the truck and I'm outside! Once my daughter had a complete conversation with my wife and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't talk on my phone while I was out of the truck trying to pick up some lumber!

I'm having the same issue with dropped sound from my microphone. It works just fine for a while, and then cuts out. I've noticed that it happens more often when it is 90 or better outside. If I hit a bump, the mic has stopped working as well. I told the dealer I believe it is a short on the mic end, but they want to change out my radio completely first. It should be installed in about 2 weeks so I'll keep you posted. Also, it seems funny to me that they wouldn't even look at the mic, but just wanted to change out the radio. Once I'm out of warranty, I'm worried that this could get really expensive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I get the same thing occasionally. I think larger bumps in the road tend to resonate through the cab... temporarily derailing the voice activation...
I think the voice activation tends to cut off incoming sound when activated, causing the conversation to be jerky in nature. I have to be really careful that I speak and then allow the other person to speak/stop before chiming in again...
Also, I think the volume of the person's voice on the truck speaker can interact with the voice activation too. I try to keep mine set as low as I can comfortably hear the other person.
Talked to a friend who is a tech geek and, while I am sure I will not do justice to his real explanation in essence there are 2 types of hands free systems: Uni-plex / Duplex (or something like that). In essence, the uni systems are less expensive and only allow comms one way at a time. So it distrupts natural conversation because if you are talking the system essentially does not allow voice to come over from the other party. In the duplex systems (more expensive and sophisticated).... they allow bi-lateral conversation.
I am still having the problem with my mic. I took the whole assembly down, and noticed that one of my wires is partially cut. I will have to replace it or repair it. I'll keep you posted on the success.

Mike...the radio volume control only controls speaker volume for both phone calls (incoming) and radio...
You can control the sensitivity of the mic, but it's a manual process that you can adjust thru a diagnostic screen in the NAV unit...there is a thread here somewhere that describes how to do this...I'll try and find it...Brad

1/8 plug from BB to aux connection select aux instant music.
I have a BB Bold with AT&T no bluetooth problem. Turn radio volume up alittle prior to answering calls or when calling person can not hear me. Thought it was just volume control, but I guess it is also a gain control. Do have to have windows up (no problem in this part of Texas with this heat ha) and AC turned down.
