Default Question about transmission noises in 2007 Tundra.

I just purchased a 2007 Tundra CrewMax. I got the 5.7L with the 6 speed transmission. I love this truck. The only concern I have is that I have experienced a rumbling vibration during light accelerations and when I drove up a very steep bridge. I only have 300 miles on it so I'm hoping this is part of the break-in period. The dealer says not to worry and that I should only bring it back in if it gets worse or in persists after 1000 miles. Has anyone else experienced this issue or heard of it? Any advice from the crowd?

Thank you.

Josh

Sounds like you have the rumble strip issue. Do a search on rumble strip in this forum and you will find lots of information. Short answer, Toyota is aware of the problem and working on a fix. Seems like most of the dealers are not aware of it though. I know, cause I have it too.

I have the same problem, the tranny seems to be shifting from 5th. to 6th. gear at low speeds causing shuddering-vibrating for a few seconds. Does this sound familiar? I have 400 miles on mine--dealer says there not aware of any problems... Lets see what Corporate does with this issue.: 2007 DC 4x4 5.7

Is the "rumble strip" issue recent or has it been around for 6 months?

I had it happen a few times when my truck was new, but now I have over 6000 kms on my truck, and it hasn't done it for a long time. I don't know if it was a break in issue, but I can not get it to do it now. I will wait and see what happens. I hear about trannys blowing and people getting extended warranty, but that still concerns me because I plan on keeping my truck for a long time. I would like to be able to put 300,000 kms on it, and not have to worry about spending a fortune on a new tranny. I am hoping that I will get the long trouble free experience that Toyota has built it's reputation on.

same here, i had the rumble strip vibe when it was new,and now have 4000 mi. hasnt done it in about a month. mine would only do it when off the gas coasting to a stop. it would never do it accelerating.

Mine does it under light acceleration, when shifting out of over drive, especially when lugged (like going up a small incline). Started at about 300 miles, now has almost 1700 miles....still doing it. I am taking a wait and see attitude. Already have a case logged, regional tech looked at it, is willing to replace tranny/torque converter but says there is about a 10% chance the new one will do it too. He said it is the #1 priority of the drive train engineering team, and that they are working on a fix. It has to do with the way the computer is signaling the torque converter....they are not sure if it is the computer, the TC, or something else.

Does everyone have it or is it a select few. I swear I can't hear it or feel it in mine. Of course I only have about 700 miles so far.

Most don't have....Tech Rep told me that "they think" somewhere between 5% and 10% of the trannys have it.

Good to know. This is my first Toyota and I feel that if I did have the problem that Toyota would hopefully back me up.

Dont sweat it dude, Toyota will take care of you. You have to rememeber that theres waaaay more members of this forum that have none , zero, zilch problems with their Tundras than those that do have em, but most of the happy folk dont post just to tell you that. the unhappy ones post the most!

I have about 3,200 miles on my crewmax and have never had anything like what has been discussed. So far I am one of the lucky ones that is completly happy with my Tundra!

Yeah....I have the tranny rumble, and I still love this truck sooooo much more than my previous one. Toyota has given me the option to replace it now, or wait for a more definitive fix. They are taking care of folks with the issue. If your dealer does not know what to do, or does not think there is a problem, ask to have the regional technical rep go out for a drive with you. I did, and in my case he didn't even go for a drive. He just talked to the dealer's master tech that had driven with me earlier in the week. From the master tech's description, he made the call that I can have the tranny/torque converter replaced now, or I can wait.....my choice.
