Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
I agree that the center pole should be the common. That means it is hooked up to whatever goes into the nav unit. The outer ones are hooked up to whatever you want to connect to the common depending on the switch position. I just hook one of the other wires to each and rotate the switch to whatever way I want it to be oriented.

Joe B: you can't use the SPG to enable movies on the NAV while in motion. The SPG sends a pulse once every few seconds that equates to a 1 kmph speed which is just enough to unlock all of the NAV functions like address book, POI data, telephone dialing, etc., however the video input shuts off at the first sign of motion so it will "blink" on and off with each pulse. I may invent a second device to enable the video all the time however this is not a priority for me because I can already watch video in motion via my rear camera input hack.
Crewmadmax: you need to make sure you have an SPDT toggle switch and not one of those illuminated rocker switches like they use on fog lamps. Most of the illuminated rocker switches only have 3 pins and they use two of them to get ground and power for the illumination so they won't work properly with the speed pulse signals. On most SPDT toggle switches the center pin is common but sometimes it can be a side pin. Get the right switch from Radio Shack and then use the wiring diagram which I sent you to be sure that you are connecting the switch properly. You may also have to replace the IC chip inside your unit since you probably fried it by hooking it up wrong. This is cheap and easy: see the troubleshooting instructions which I included with the device.
Note: I receive many messages about the NAV Speed Pulse Generator so I continue to build them for people on request. If you want one then just PM me via this forum and include your email address.

The switch sounds like the problem. I'll get the correct one, but I'm guessing I fried the chip like you said.
Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
I want to know if anyone knows of a company anywhere that will allow video to be played on the factory Tundra nav system with no rear entertainment . I am not concerned about the warning or blockouts, I just to play video from my ipod or seperate dvd player. Nobody seems to make an interface anywhere. I dont mind if it is a few hundred bucks , I just any an easy interface without cutting the factory wires or using toggles for everything. Please let me know if you hear of an interface. thanks in advance
Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
There was one unit mentioned on the DVD to video screen threads that looked like it was an interface to the actual screen. Basically, you could hijack the screen and display the video you want through this box. I think it was something like $450.

Then I'll see if it works not. So there we are...that's the next step. I don't really need the nav anyways, but so far at least I have video up front. Oh, also the speed pulse is disconnected. Looks like you need both, since it makes the nav think you're not going anywhere.
In order to view DVDs from the stock RES on the stock NAV while in motion can the following be done:
1. put a switch on the speed sensor to shut it off
2. ground the parking break
When the Nav is needed again instead of the DVD flip the switch to off....thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

No, this won't work. When the speed pulse is missing or corrupt then the NAV resorts to using the GPS to monitor your speed. This is why king had to disconnect the GPS antenna, which will work if you also enable the speed pulse generator or disconnect the speed wire altogether, but I do not recommend this solution. The GPS antenna connector is not something you want to mess up and adding a switch or tap to that line could result in weaker GPS signal and poor performance from the NAV when you are not watching a DVD. Also, this will only work if you have the factory RSES package. I am still working on my second mod device to enable the video input all the time on all vehicles but it is second or third on the priority list right now. I am 90% of the way done, just need to do some more testing to confirm and then build a few prototypes.

Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
Ok thanks for the advice, just for peace of mind. If I did all 3, ground the parking brake, put a switch on the speed sensor, and put a switch or disable the gps antenna I should be able to view my stock RES on my stock NAV right?

I don't have RSES so I haven't tested it, but I believe this to be true. I think there would be unexpected side effects which you may not like so test at your own risk and by all means let us know how it works (or not)...

WileEtundra.
First, thank you ver very much for your quick mailing and all the instructions...Clean and beautiful!!!
I, Like JOE B. in a previous post have bought the Vais Slv2 ipod video connection and have exactly the same issue, which makes sense now that we all have it. (Consistant).
Just to describe:
When the SPG is activated the screen flips between the video and the map display and back again repeatedly. each one is on for just a few seconds before repeatedly changing to the other screen.
No Pressure, but if you have a solution to his guys!!! I tell you it's the most amazing thing if this worked while the car in motion...it is so useful and the quality is great.
I know that you have your video connected from the rear camera, but the Vais would really be worth the money (350) if it worked with the SPG...
Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
Could it be that the SPG is fooling the nav into thinking that the truck is moving 5mph or something? Does is interfere with the other device? What is the input of Vais?
FYI, I have my aux input wired to the backup camera and the SPG doesn't interfere with that at all. It's wired so that the nav thinks it's in reverse to enable the camera input.

ok I will try this..any diagrams you can point me to? I will research on this site anyways..I wonder if I could play my ivideos like that... interesting thought..i guess the audio will still come from the vais...hmm
