Here is my post. Video on the NAV screen from another video source!!!
Thanks a lot.
In order to enable the rear camera input while driving you have to feed the NAV a signal which tells it the vehicle is moving in reverse direction. The mapping software thus tries to show you backing up but it gets a little confused when you drive at the higher speeds because the gps signals do not match the dead reckoning it is trying to calculate based on your speed pulse and reported direction of travel. So I found that the map scrolls very poorly when I enable the rear camera feed while driving forward, but the map does update often enough for me to see where I am at, and usually on highway trips I am not turning often anyway. The bottom line is that when you watch a movie you shouldn't plan on using the map, and vice versa, but with my toggle switch panel I can flip it back into the factory mode briefly to update the map and get directions if needed, then flip back to the movie. I hope to make this a moot issue by enabling the second video input but I am not done with that project yet, and I really don't need it since the existing setup works very well for me.
Note: I receive many messages about the NAV Speed Pulse Generator so I continue to build them for people on request. If you want one then just PM me via this forum and include your email address.

Thank you for the explanation. I actually found out that I need to start the route again if I missed the turn.

Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
Hi all. First time poster here. I've got a 2007 Tundra DC 4x4 Limited with factory Nav system and was similarly annoyed. After looking around and considering the options, I found wileetundra's solution and offer to build the speed pulse generator for you. I contacted him ordered it and it came last week. I had some extra time over Thanksgiving Holiday and just spent the last couple of hours installing it. Everything worked perfectly and I now have a fully functional nav system while driving.
The toughest part for me was just being comfortable taking apart the dash/nav unit for the first time. Once I got through that, it was simple.
A big thanks to wileetundra for this great mod and for being willing to spend the time to build/sell/ship the device to those of us who have forgotten most of our electrical engineering courses!
I'm now looking forward to trying several other of wileetundra's mod projects.
Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
I continue to get a lot of orders for the NAV speed pulse device and the first five batches sold out quickly. I recently made a sixth batch which is almost gone and I plan to make one more batch before Christmas. I am using an updated circuit design which I haven't posted in my install report yet - it is a more reliable circuit and uses a slower pulse for the best possible map scrolling.
Many people have asked for additional payment options so I have good news: I now accept cash via Paypal, money orders or checks via the US mail, and credit cards via Google Checkout.
So if you are waiting to get one of these devices to unlock your factory NAV then now is the time to order since I will be too busy with other projects once it gets closer to Christmas. These would make nice gifts for your Tundra-driving friends and it would be ideal to take advantage of the holiday break for the installation, plus you would have the NAV unlocked just in time for the long holiday trips.
Just send me a PM and I will reply with detailed payment instructions. I always ship within 12 hours of receiving payment and the devices are shipped via priority mail so you will get a tracking number via email for tracking purposes.

I have tested the speed pulse device with firmware versions 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 and it worked the same for all of them. I believe it will work with all future versions as well since Toyota isn't likely to change the core logic in the firmware given that the code has to be backward compatible.
Everyone has their own idea on where to put the bypass switch and what type of switch to get, but most seem to be drilling a small hole in the dashboard or center console and installing a small or medium toggle in that location.

Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
I'm about to install a speed pulse generator I picked up from Wile E and I want to have it look as stock as possible. I have a blank in the switch bank below the climate control in my Sequoia and would like to use an OEM toggle switch for the speed pulse generator.
Does anyone happen to know the part number of an oem toggle I can use for this, or can you point me in the direction to looking one up?
Maybe something like this?
or this?
Nevermind, after searching for over an hour I finally found an old thread where someone successfully used the first pic I posted, the fog light switch from a Tacoma. There are so many switch posts it took a while to find the right one.

Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
well sorry to clog the thread but I have a switch question too. I bought a SPST, single pole single throw switch instead of a single pole double throw switch and I'm wondering if I can just add it to the power wire for the speed pulse generator.
I understand how the double throw toggle is meant to work in wilee's instructions, but I don't know if the speed pulse generator box will transmit the stock signal to the nav unit if I remove power from the switched 12v source wire on the fly and then just add it by turning my SPST switch back on when I need it.
any help?
never mind, looked at the wiring again and went to get the spdt toggle

Good observation chiplee. You need an SPDT to disconnect the factory signal when you feed in the fake speed pulse signal. If you hooked them both up at the same time it could blow a fuse or damage the vehicle ECU.

Sure, as long as it is standard SPDT and not a momentary switch. Also, I don't recommend lighted switches unless the switch has dedicated terminals to power the illumination separate from the SPDT terminals. This is because the speed pulse generator switch, when properly connected, will not provide the proper voltage to keep the illumination lit properly.

Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
I'm just posting to give yet another for this device.
I installed it with black plastic toggle like this:
and cut it into one of the three unused plastic block off plugs on my console. The ones that fill the holes left for future or optional switch positions. I can take a picture of the actual install if anyone is interested but it works perfectly and being able to toggle it on and off makes it so the nav can be fully accurate for terminal guidance commands and last minute stuff. Very cool. oh and the 2004 Gen 3 4Runner Nav had the same speed sensor wire as the write up wilee did, but it was purple with a red stripe.
Re: DIY: All NAV Functions All The Time without Firmware Downgrade!
For my personal SPG device I have the switch mounted in a special project box along with 6 other switches, a few chips, resistors, and some other special stuff. This is part of a major wiring mod that I did to add a lot of other options. I mounted this switch box on the front wall of the center console. It is out of the way and invisible to most people yet easy to reach when I need it and it doesn't take any space out of the console. The first two pics show it with the top console file bracket removed so you can get a better look at it. It works fine with the bracket installed and the bracket actually protects me from bumping the switches while taking things in and out of the console.
I did use some illuminated rocker switches in my dash for my train horn mod - see the third pic. The first switch toggles between factory horn or train horn and the second switch supplies power to a fuse box that I installed in the bed to run the compressor for the train horn, an AC inverter, and several other things. These toggle switches were initially too bright so I added some resistors to drop them down to match the other dash lights, then I hooked them up to the adjustable light dimmer control so they come on and off with all the other interior lights automatically.
