TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Mod weekend with pics..", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Well I got my color matched grill installed this weekend since it showed up so quick, I really wasn't expecting it this weekend. I am not a big fan on the big ole chrome front end on the Tundra so this was my solution. I also have some pictures of the door sill protectors I installed too. I also got around to taken some pictures of the clear bra that I installed last weekend myself on the hood, fender and front bumper area.

No I just picked up a chrome tip from a local auto store.

Is your CM a 4x4? I love that color too!
Yes its a 4X4 CM and I too just love this color, so when I made my deal that was the important thing, had to have one in Blue Streak . I got a few more things on order that should be here in the next few weeks hopfully.
I picked it up precut from ebay so its was much easier to install since no cutting was needed. Do a search on say "2007 tundra bra" and I am sure you find a few people selling them, I don't think they want me posting links to ebay stuff here. I grabed my whole setup for around $40.00 shipped to my door, I think that was it and at this price even if I did mess up real bad I just do it again. A lot cheaper than local guy who quoted me over $500.00 for install.
I have also gotten a few PM's about were I got the color match grill, give Ken a try he is the parts guy from a dealer selling here. I hope its okay to post his web sites link since he advertises here already. TRD Toyota/Scion Parts Accessories from Sparks Toyota/Scion
or you could try your local dealer but I found Ken had the best price on them.
Oh I also forgot to mention I de-badged my 5.7 giant fender emblems too last weekend.
Body color grill is an excellent appearance improvement to an 07 Tundra.
I have to agree and think Toyota should of done this on them all from the start and not have us have to buy a new part but I was actually surpised at how cheap overall this one part is since it is a complete assembly, no need to do anything but unbolt the old one install new the one and your set. I am not a big fan of all the chrome myself so I was happy to be able to get rid of a big part like that huge grill up front. Think I may do something with them mirrors today, I want to try a idea I have out. So if I do I be sure to post up some pictures.
Hi WT, love the film. I myself really wanted the film installed professionally. I really don't know how difficult it is to install by myself. Don't even try to ask me to TINT a window myself. I'll let the pros do that. lol. But where I live, in boondock counties like Montgomery, TX, I'm really gonna be needing that bra film. I've MURDERED so many flies at night driving on county roads at night. It's crazy how many flies you've killed when you drive for hours in the middle of nowhere late at night.
Very Nice! Much better than the bright contrasting Chrome against the nice Blue color. I have the chrome with the Desert Mica, so it's not as distracting. But I e-mailed Ken to see if they have the Gold available. Not that expensive for a more custom look.

Like I said its not to hard to do yourself but mines not 100% perfect but for the saving, I think it looks good, well for what you can see of it. I will say if your planning on doing this yourself set the center of the hood first and then stretch the material to each side of the hood to line things up before pushing all the water out, you will have to stretch it a bit at the curves parts to get it to conform to shape but let it sot a while to let some of the solution dry out and it stick better when you use your squegee(sp). The good part is worst case pull it up and do it again since it take a day or more to set completely. Use small pin to pop large air pockets after the first day or so and push out the air and left over solution (Baby sampoo and water). I may try the tint next since our front windows are rather flat so it should be a little easier and for what they charge for pre-cut tint it may be worth a try too even if I mess that up.
I also gotten a few PM's of removing the large 5.7 emblem and how I did it, I will say my way may not be the best but it worked for me so here goes.
I got some painters tape around the emblem and then got out the hair dryer heated it up (Hot to the touch). Once it was hot enough I twisted the edged with a hard plastic scraper I had and worked it under one end of the emblem. Once you get it under there push it in slowly and lift and this will lift the emblem off (should be able to grab with you fingers and pull it off). Next clean up the extra glue material, I used some WD-40 on a rag after getting as much off with my thumb and fingers. Next I just put some wax back down on the area after removing the painters tape.
The other questions I have been getting was, were I got the door sill protectors. I got them from Sparks too since I had the grill coming from them and was reasonable price and shipping costs.
Oh forgot to mention the pre cleaning process before applying the film, I used claybar to clean up the front end and smooth it all out prior to install. IT did a great job of getting off the rail dust I could feel on the hood and other places.
