TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Air changes to "fresh air" every 3 mins", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
...which is similar, but not completely. I have an SR5, without that fancy auto-air. Here's my problem:
I've noticed that my air will not stay on "recirculating". It switches to "fresh air" automatically every 3 minutes. Below are my findings from the trip into work today:
1) Air set to recirculate, ADJUSTED the temperature 2 mins into it. 19 minutes later, it automatically switched to "fresh air"
2) Air set to recirculate, NEVER adjusted the temperature. 3 minutes later, it automatically switched to "fresh air".
3) Air set to recirculate, NEVER adjusted the temperature. 3 minutes later, it automatically switched to "fresh air".
4) Air set to recirculate, NEVER adjusted the temperature. 3 minutes later, it automatically switched to "fresh air".
5) Air set to recirculate, NEVER adjusted the temperature. 3 minutes later, it automatically switched to "fresh air".
6) Air set to recirculate, NEVER adjusted the temperature. 3 minutes later, it automatically switched to "fresh air".
7) Air set to recirculate, ADJUSTED the temperature 2 mins into it. 20 minutes later, it automatically switched to "fresh air"
In summary, if I never touched the temperature knob...it always switched to "fresh air" within 3 minutes. If I messed with the temperature, I could get ~20 minutes of recirculating air before it switched.
Is anyone else having this very annoying problem? Can this type of thing be programmed by the dealer?
pretty sure it is working correctly. what did you have the
"vent knob" set to? most vehicles will not stay on
recirc if it reasons that you are trying to defrost because
the defrost works better with the ac on and on fresh air.
it should be explained in the manual. yspert
If you don't like the feature, your dealer can change this for you by jacking into the truck's computor with their "techstream" laptop. I had it done on my Limited.
See this thread for features that can be changed, look at the PDF. Feature Customization??

Very cool - thanks guys! I had my vent set to blow forward (not on defrost and not on my feet). Looks like I'll just have the dealership program it so it doesn't automatically switch on me.
Am I totally missing something here? I don't see any functions anywhere in any of these 'customization' charts that mentions the recirculating function should automatically turn off. I'm having the excact same issue as Temeculaseq is having. I took it to my dealer and he says it's a bad switch and has ordered a replacement.

Open the PDF contained here...Feature Customization??
Page 1, it is called "Air Inlet Mode"
When the page refers to A/C (air conditioner) they mean both the heating and cooling system, I assume that may be where your confusion lies...

OK....Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I've read that, though, and I think there's a misunderstanding of the issue and/or a misinterpretation of this PDF document. First, the issue that we are having is that the Reciruclate Air is turning OFF (to let fresh air in) on it's own. Regardless of what mode I put my a/c or heater on (defrost, partial defrost, blowing on feet, blowing through main vents), if I press the recirc button 'on', it turns itself off within a few mins. The mode that this document talks about is automatically turning the Recirculate Air switch ON during a/c or heat or defrost operation (to extrapulate a little). This works perfectly fine on my truck. If i turn the A/C on to max, the recirc automatically turns on. Again..the issue we're having is that the recirc button turns off without touching any other controls.
I think the document does not go into enough detail to explain all aspects of the Air Inlet Mode. Yes, it will turn to fresh after certain temps are achieved. It will also turn back to Recirc, if you stop and leave the truck running (exhaust fume protection). Air inlet has 2 choices, Auto or Manual, it is set to Auto from the factory. Mine is now set to Manual by my dealer and it does not switch anymore unless I push the button.

read your owner's manual starting on page 380.
also, you can hold down the fresh/rec button for two
seconds to cancel the "auto change" feature. which
might be easier for you. yspert
