Default Finally, trans prob fixed......its like a different truck!

Found the original thread that I was in and it was soooo burried I figured I'd start a new one as a way to bring hope to the frustrated with trans probs and as a way to say that I FINALLY understand why everyone loves this truck so much.

I didnt have the rumble prob, but I had severe "clunking" and times when it felt like I wasnt all the way in gear. Was thinking maybe I was being to critical and after being bashed to death by all the "haters" on here was about to give up. But I paid alot for this truck and I wanted it to be all it could be.

Took over a month to get it all sorted out. I bought truck back in April and now have 6600 miles. I have a new tranny, took 2 days to get put in and I had a nice 08 Tundra as a loaner. The second I got in my truck after the change it was like getting into a totally different truck. This thing is now smooth as silk and feels like the POWER is really getting to the road. Its an amazing difference. So anyone out there with these problems........there is hope. Just be persistent and dont settle.

Some observations I made while driving the loaner were interesting. I have the 5.7......the loaner was 4.7. Im super glad I sprung for the 5.7. No way could I go back to the 4.7 now. However, the 4.7 felt very smooth and almost car like campared to the 5.7. The other big thing was that I dont have the TRD but the loaner did. Here I feel like I made a GOOD choice. I felt nothing with the TRD that was worth 1500$ The fog lights were nice. I also appreciate the extra few bucks I spent on the NAV, DVD, JBL, Camera and bucket seats. MUCH nicer than the stock stuff.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but Im NOW very happy and wanted to tak about it. Not all posts should be negative.

Plus a "thank you" to my salesman.........got free chrome door handles, shifter, and new Nav disk for FREE for all my headache. Im a renewed Toyota Lover.

Chris

Did they narrow the problem down to what actually was the failed part?

Final ticket states "internal transmission failure" I was told that my old trans was going to be sent back to Toyota for them to look at. I was very uncomfortable at first about having to get a new transmission already, but the experience has been good and so far Im happy. Im chalking it up to the fact that my truck was built in Indy in Mar of 07, so it was early and the bugs have since been worked out. My previous truck was a 2000 Silverado Z71 and the only prob I ever had was a bad fuel sending unit. Thats it. My new Tundra is so far better in every area so Im hoping that reliability will be the same.

You had a nice 08 Tundra as a loaner? Not possible, must've been an 07.

Your post brings a breath of fresh confidence to me.... Mine is in the shop for second transmission swap. Rumble problem.... I keep hoping if I persist they will put in a bran spankin new tranny and I will drive away happy. Just heard back from the selling dealer. He expressed his sincerest regrets that I am experiencig the problem. Buy back is an option but Selling dealer (sells 50trucks per month) tells me XSP packaged trucks are getting rare. So..... I cross my fingers and pray mine works this time. It will be a long 4 days waiting till Monday to get back on the road.

You might be right.........but the guy from Hertz who gave me the truck and the paperwork from Hertz said 08. Could have been a mistake........didnt check door jam. The main point was that it was the 4.7 and TRD which allowed me to make some comparisons over the span of 2-3 days.
