Just curious because I know that choosing the Tundra over its competition was a decision I didn't take lightly, I wanted to find out what other trucks you would have chosen if there was no Tundra?
For me the F150 was my next choice. I test drove every new truck before I made the decision for the Tundra.
#1) F150: I come from a family that historically has ties to FoMoCo Trucks.
+) rugged frame, decent styling
-) oldest body style, due for a makeover, everyone has one
#2) Ram: My friend loved his so much he wrecked one to buy another.
+) rugged looks, powerful engine options
-) never know about quality with Chrysler, oldest frame
#3) Titan: My Sister and Bro-Law have a Nissan Frontier and Minivan.
+) relatively rare, interesting styling, like that side bed tool box
-) underpowered engine options, owned by a French company
#4) Sierra: My family is Ford and Toyota people, so even though its a Silverado.....well.....its not exactly a Silverado.
+) new, nice styling, not the Chevy
-) not as good looking as it brother, is the Chevy

FUTURE MODS -
25-30 ft Travel Trailer....... bye bye Pop-Up
1) Ford
I looked at the Ford long and hard before buying the Tundra. The FX4 Crew cab with everything and the 20" wheels. It had a better fit and finish inside and I find that surprising. It had full metal skid plates. If anyone complains about the ride in a TRD they should take this one for a drive. Talk about stiff. The big factor came in the test when I hooked it up to the boat. It seemed not too bad for towing. This was before I test drove the Toyota. After I pulled the boat with Tundra I knew there was no way I could get the Ford.
2) Chevy
I really liked the truck. What I found strange is that no mater how I optioned it, it was always more expensive that what ever else I was looking at.
3) Nissan
Not a bad truck, but I have owned more Nissans than any other make. I know most of the problems with them when new and used. I figured it was time to face some new problems from owning a different manufacturer.
4) Honda
Love my Honda’s, but lets face it this is not a real truck(for my purposes anyway).
5) Dodge
I will never say I will never own a certain brand of anything because I might end up eating my words in the future. This is about as close as it gets. I did take a few for a test drive.
1. Dodge - reliable, powerful, good off road ability. Older design, not very comfy, either too little cab room, or mega cab which makes the truck too big.
2. Ford - quiet, smooth, reliable. Underpowered, low ground clearance.
3. Nissan - powerful, sort of edgy. Seem to always have something minor wrong with them, local dealer is beyond terrible.
4. Chevy - never considered it. Expensive, and I'm sure Mr. Goodwrench moonlights as a gay porn star, since he's always tried to *^&# me when I went there for vehicle service in the past.

Considered the 2500 HD Chevy because you can get the 6 speed tranny in the 2500. If they offered the 6 speed in the 1500, it would have been a much tighter race.
I came close to buying a F150 because the dealer took $10K off a $42K sticker but jerked me around on the numbers so much (playing the old-school salesman "smoke and mirrors" games) that I got PO'd and walked-away from the deal over $495. (Funny story...this dealer charged $599 for doc fees..... and tried to tell me that it was "against the law for him to take it off the deal". As I was walking away, after I busted him playing with the numbers for the 3rd time, he offered to waive the doc fee....man I love car salesmen sometimes....)
The 0% for 48 months is what sealed the deal on the Toyota for me. I never even considered a Titan because all you have to do is look at the prices for used ones to see that they have horrible re-sale. That told me all I needed to know about the Titan.
I had an 00 f150 that I racked up 400km's on it (250 miles). still had the oriinal U joints, starter, alternaor, fuel pump, water pump, tranny, motor, nearly everything. It was full bolt ons, (intake, headers, exhaust, UDP's, efans, custm tunes) and a 75 shot of nitrous. It eventually threw a plug out the hood when I was racing the bosses jacked up cummins. It would have handed a new Tundra its *** I think. I sold it as is as i never had time to muck around with it. I hae seen it since with a a new cowl hood on it.
This was an impulse buy, the tundra, I just liked the power it had right out of the box and jumped on it.
Kept my 2000 Tundra Access-Cab SR5. The amazing new truck - every day it felt like new. I'll never buy non-Toyota again (1998 Dodge 1500 5.9 - stupid stupid stupid).
I feel the same way about the '03 "Hemi" I bought - stupid, stupid, stupid.....traded after 12K, and a new tranny, for a '05 Sequoia SR5 4x4 which I still have and will keep till the wheels fall off.
Power, styling, newness, relative rarity and positive previous Toyota experience all lead me to choosing the Tundra.
The 5.7 speaks for itself. My truck was a relatively late production 2007, so most of the bugs should be worked out (so far so good). There aren't TOO many of them on the road here yet, but already more then I like! I see atleast 3 a day now!ToMoCo hit the styling out of the park as far as I'm concerned. And I have driven an '83 Tercel, '85 Celica, and '93 Celica with hardly any problems.
sierra/denali only other options. i would love a titan, think they look the best out of all the trucks but the mileage sucks and so many problems with them

For me it was between the new Chevy Avalanche and the Tundra...The Avalanche was a really sweet ride but a bit overpriced...My Tundra is way more capable, faster, bigger, roomier, more comfortable ride, etc. I still like the looks of the Avalanche, but the looks of the Tundra combined with power, and everything else sold me on the Tundra.
