A little off topic, but is there an actual statistic on 4x4 and 4x2's sold?
If there is, it sure doesn't sound like it was given to Consumer Reports.

CR just tabulates the results of ACTUAL owner surveys for their results.
What owner surveys? They don't actually send any surveys out to people do they... I mean, how would they know who owns a new Tundra. I never got one. So they rely on people who own them to pay for an internet subscribtion and take on online survey?
It would seem that someone with no problems would be far less likely to go through that trouble then someone who has a problem and wants others to know about it. So I'm guessing a small sample rate.
I am wrong here?

Whoa, and if this is the case, what is to stop people who do not own a Tundra from rating it on their site? They have to send out surveys, right? I know I didn't get one from CR.

They send out vehicle surveys to CR members. If you subscribe to their magazine, you get a survey once a year. You fill in what vehicle you own, and then answer a ton of questions. I have gotten one the past couple of years since I subscribe to CR.

I hate to be the pessimist, but do they confirm actual ownership?

To all of you with a problem with a harsh ride or bed bounce: Try this, let about 10 pounds of pressure out of the recommended maximum pressure of the tires. Don't worry, they won't wear out quicker. But the truck will ride much better. My brother has a 2007 TRD and there is a huge difference in the ride. The tires when he first bought his Tundra were underinflated by 10 pounds- it had a nice ride. He checked the tire pressure and saw they were underinflated, so he filled them to the maximum recommended pressure on the tire. He went one block and was shocked by the jittery ride. He then took 10 pounds of pressure back out and had a much smoother ride back. Remember, the maximum recommended pressure is a maximum.
Just a thought, since so many here are complaining about a harsh ride.
Try driving my 2006 Tundra with 295/45/20's and you will think you are in a Cadillac. But, I chose handling over comfort.

Not that I am aware of....but I have been bad and not in the mood to fill out the big survey. I can't remember if the vehicle type was filled in or not by CR (ie, from registration records), or if the subscriber filled out what type of vehicle they own. Maybe someone else here is a CR subscriber and can answer that one...sorry.

Oh so now I get it. You own a Tundra, you subscribe to CR and when your pissed about some silly azz chit (which is really 90% of what folks complain about here), you then get a survey and slam the truck. The happy owners just keep on trucking with no idea that people actually subscribe to CR (I didn't) or care. That seems like a fair and equitable source for determining the reliability of a vehicle! NOT! if that is really how it works then I dont have so much confusion about the review or the quality of CR's reports, heck it aint worth the charmin extra soft I wipe my butt with! <grin> All this hoopla over some ridiculous BS method of evaluating dishwashers and complex 4WD vehicles...geez.

I subscribe to their magazine, 2nd year... I did not get a survey.
As I understand it...CR uses the feedback from owner/subscribers for compiling reliability statistics. Obviously, over the years, you get a lot of happy owners too (as is found by all the red responses) that fill out/return the surveys.
I think, as has already been mentioned, that CR jumped the gun and should not be rating/recommending a vehicle until it has enough survey data to back up it's claims....and I find it hard to believe that they have enough data yet on these trucks.

Don't know about that...might want to contact CR. I have gotten one the past two years (and I have been a subscriber for 2 years). Comes in a very thick white envelope...lots of pages in it. You can bet I will be filling the next one out!!!
