Default Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average

CR rated my 98 Range Rover vary low and I almost cried when I traded it in on my 04 RR. Total maintenance cost was less at 120K miles than my daughters VW bug at 79K miles. My new 04 RR has had 2 warranty items in 40K miles and I love the vehicle.

My new Tundra is great and with 3K mile have no issues. I went down a fairly steep embankment the other day to get off the road knowing that I may have to put it into 4 x 4 to get out or take another route; however I was able to back out without any problems and no tire slippage. Mine is a CM so the weight of the bigger cab would help. I drove a DC 2 X 2 and lit up the tire by accident leaving a stop light. It was not due to any problem but light weight truck with a lot of torque at hand. Such a problem.

I think CR should stick to rating vacuum cleaners as they know little about good engineering and less about motor vehicles.

Has any one read the October 16, 2007 Consumer Reports update? They no longer reccommend the 07 tundra V8 at all. I gets a full BLACk circle now...
I was considering a 07 Tundra, but I don't think so now!!!!. Kerry

There is another thread on that here. Read it. It might change your mind. I read the CR write up and I'm still glad I bought my 07 Tundra.

Seems pretty good to me.

What is the alternative? Toyota ranks #5, Ford #13, GMC #28 and Chevy #30. I am seriously annoyed at Toyota, but they still make the best product. Reversion to the mean, I guess.

Thats what happens when you fill out your survey whining about a broken clip on the tail gate or as some people think bed bounce which I have yet to experience. Must be I have to live on the west coast.

Who cares?? I just turned 14k miles with zero problems, made a 250 mile trip today and got 20.2mpg @ 70mph...and it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Buy a Ford or Chevy and then in 6 months tell us how you like it...and how many times you have been back to the dealer for repairs.

Folks need to read the article in its entirety before jumping ship. CR admits they don't usually include new redesigns until a full year of manufacture has been completed. Exceptions made for Tundra due to Toyota's history of reliability. Duh......
Tundra wasn't released for sale until Mar. or April. It's only October. That figures to be 7 months of sales. Factor in they would have had to recieve and process customer satisfaction surveys after what a month or two of ownership. Now you're down to 5 months of data. Factor in how long it takes to read, report, write the findings and put article to press.
You all really think that CR has a good representation of reliability?

Sorry but I can see from the thousands of posts on this site that most of us love our new trucks. I am pretty confident a full years survey will tell a different story next year.
Go buy you a new Tundra... .You won't be sorry.

Consumer Reports is such a dated company, they should stick to rating washing machines and micorwaves for senior citizens. All of the "car and truck" magazines have rated them exceptionally well.

DOWN WITH CONSUMER REPORTS!!!

What I found quite humorous was that Toyota ranked 5th overall in quality and that Dodge was ranked 26th in quality, hell I didn't even know there were 26 Vehicle manufacturers! <grins>

Well I guess I had better get rid of my Tundra if CR says they don't recommend them - what was I thinking. I should have checked with them before I spent all that money on a truck. I would have missed out on all this service free fun and comfort, but CR knows best.
