Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
Well I call Bull$h1+ on their ratings. How can the same equipment like the radio be rated lower in a 4x4 than a 4x2? If it is a piece of crap then it is, and the front axle won't make it better or worse. They rate the V8 models lower that the V6 models, but the V8 includes the 4.7 which they rate very highly in previous years. so if it accounts for half of the models sold then half the V8's should be excellent and half should be not rated due to lack of data. I bet they are punishing Toyota for jumping off the band wagon and selling a truck that makes more power than is politically correct. Good thing I don't read their magazine, I may miss out of some other good things in life because they think it has too much power or lacks a safety feature that limits it's usefulness to knowledgeable users. I wouldn't buy any truck with full time fourwheel drive. I know when I need fuel economy and when I need traction. I will decide and shift as needed. Trucks are not a broad market vehicle, they are oriented towards people who haul more than average and who should be prepared to deal with more technical issues like payload ratings and when to shift the transfer case.

I didn't reply to his thread then and the only reason I replied in this one now is because it is simply BS. I dont subscribe to CR and really dont give a chit what they state or how rosey a picture they draw. My best friend for 15 years is a Service Manager in one state at a Toyota Dealership and I have some very good friends that work as techs at a Toyota dealership in my state. I take their word in far greater vane than a BS refrigerator rating company could ever dish out. If the Tundras aint in the shop being worked on at an alarming rate then the Tundras aint in the shop being worked on at an alarming rate. plain and simple, those are the only opinions I value. And I assure you that if those opinions I value from those in the know changed, I would gladly tell anyone on this forum what I know to be truly wrong with the new Tundras, there just aint much wrong thats worth mentioning. How big the front seat is or how cushy the ride is means "0" to me. Its fun debating back and forth here with folks but cmon, CR included, the BS gets way too deep here sometimes and the BS stirers just make me wear chest waders instead of hip waders. Big picture folks is that the Tundra is what it is and the majority of Tundra owners know this and oh by the way they (the majority) arent members of this forum.
Agreed. Some of them are Toyota owners of cars/trucks that are 9 years old or older and they "think" they know the reliability of the 2007. Heck, they probably haven't even test drove a newer Toyota in 6 years or so.They are simply not owners of the 2007 model. Alot of them have 15 posts or less getting in on the BS.........Nuff said.

Yea, that was me and I did my gloating in another thread.
What amazes me is the response to the report; it reminds me of something I might read on a Chrysler forum (wife owns a Nitro-DON'T ASK --she thinks it's cute--).
I always thought Toyota buyers were more mature.
CR is unbiased. There ratings come from OWNERS FEEDBACK Questionnaires.
The fact that the Tundra is a gas guzzler and therefore received bad ratings is ludicrous. Have you read the LandCruiser and 4Runner ratings?
There are problems w/the 07. I don't know yet if that will make me wait for an 08 or 09 but it is definately something to add to the equation.
Who the hell is doing these ratings??? They give the powertrain 2 stars and the interior 4 stars. I am pretty sure they havent spent much time in an 07 Tundra cuz I'd ding the interior in mine way before I'd ding the powertrain. Are these folks on crack or are they just dreaming this stuff up???

Thats what happens when you fill out your survey whining about a broken clip on the tail gate or as some people think bed bounce which I have yet to experience. Must be I have to live on the west coast.
why do people keep talking to us with bed bounce like we are retarded? Do you honestly think we have never driven a truck before? thousands of us just dream up this bed bounce problem? I love my truck but trust me there is bed bounce much worse than my 2004 f150 more than my 2001 ranger much more than my buddies 2500.

I don't buy cars based on reliability ratings anyway. As stated before, by others, the willingness of a company to stand behind it's products is just as important if not more important than initial quality. But for those that rely on a vehicle to make their living, having the vehicle down for say a tranny replacement is a real pain unless another truck is provided while theirs is under repair.
With any luck this will just be a wake up call for Toyota to slow down, focus on what they need to and make things better for their customers. This rating is not the end of the world, just constructive criticism as far as the reliability stats. The subjective ratings are just that, and anyone that wants a transportation appliance (like CR) will not understand or tolerate a vehicle that has any character.

If that's the case then CR misled all of us with there first report on the Tundra and we should all get together and file a class-action lawsuit againest them for fraud.
Whether it's true or not doesn't matter, but since this report is reported by someone like CR and a lot of people take things at face value without taking some time to do a little research for themselves, the backlash is likely to hurt future sales of the Tundra and the future resale value.

They didn't mislead you and you certainly can't file a lawsuit; it was CLEARLY stated that the rating was based on previous model history.
Wow - amazing how Tundra zealots are throwing everything they can at Consumer Reports, with little understanding of how the magazine works. No matter how you spin it, this is *BAD* news. The ratings are based on surveys tabulated by a non-profit! They have no agenda! They have been recommending Tundras for years so this is not good.
I happen to think they're spot on with many of their comments -- i.e. the jittery ride, poor gas mileage, rough TRD package, strong acceleration, no full-time 4WD, impressive tailgate...
Please stop the whining - it makes us look like children.
