CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
Disappointing news. Consumer Reports has just rated V8 4x4 Tundra reliability well below average and cannot recommend it. The new Tundra is ranked below the Nissan Titan and the Silverado. It also gives low ratings for ride quality and gas mileage.
Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
The tire spin easily, even on dry pavement?
I have to really push it to get them spinning. In normal driving I have never had a problem with traction.
I bet the reliability rating goes up after some more time is under their belts. The teething issues appear to be settling down. It could be that the early cam issue and the transmisson issue has skewed the surveys they got back early on. Also, what time frame do they have for calculating the reliability?
Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
Not that I read CR or even follow their reports, I am gonna have to throw a huge waving BS flag on this one. From talking to techs at my local Toyota dealership the new Tundra in its first year of inception has had fewer issues than the first year Tundra did in 2000 (late 99). Its also clear that they want to drive a truck that rides like a car. Now I'd like to see them convinve the 100,000 + customers that test drove Fords, GM's and Dodges that ended up going with the Tundra instead that they made a bad decision, cmmon. Reliability rating is "EXPECTED" to be less than average...what the heck does that even mean, how do you expect anything?

Huh?... what exactly makes the 4wd less reliable then the 2wd??? What's the reliability problem with the 4wd system.... they talk about customer surveys but give no specifics. Did any of you get a survey to fill out? I subscribe to CR and didn't get any survey. Need more info.....

I was really surpised and upset by this news because I think it holds a huge amount of weight, simply because this is a big turnaround in the ratings. Consumer Reports has historically given Toyota high quality ratings - and now the Camry V6 and the Tundra have taken a surprising turn for the worst.
Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
I think CR is garbage as well. But unfortunately, if the vehicle in question were the silverado or sierra, this article would be used as proof that the big three are still unreliable, pieces of junk, etc.....
Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
I never got a survey from CR on my Tundra. Did get one from Toyota. So, who know's. Dig a little deeper and without directly quoting from the site...(I guess that's copyright infringement) the Tundra is still the highgest rated in customer satifaction (i.e. "Would you buy that car again?")...a couple percentage points higher than Silverado.
Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
looking at the graph (on consumer reports website) the 2 wheel drive is practically at the top and the 4 wheel drive is near the bottom......I have a hard time understanding what the difference between the two could account for the large difference in ratings......I did not think the camshaft, transmission or torque converter issues affected only 4 wheel drive and not the 2???
Re: CR Rates New Tundra V8 4x4 Reliability Well Below Average
I don't read or subscribe to any of the garbage that CR puts out. Only thing that shows me reliablity is from seeing others do and from having done the stuff.

It would be nice if a link was provided to this information or is it locked for CR subscribers only?
