The Tundra is not gonna please everyone. Brand new Honda's are traded in for Toyota's every week. Matter of fact all new makes have been traded! I love it 'cause I get to drive diff. makes without dealing w/a salesman! I appraise vehicles w/temporary tags all the time. If your not happy trade it. There is no reason to drive something that does not make you happy. If you can't afford to pay the depreciation then make long, educated decision-get some of those vehicles taken home overnight (the makes and models you re thinking about) Dealers don't like too but they will. Base decision off of that. NEVER BUY ON EMOTION-THATS EXACTLY WHAT SALESMEN WANT!!
well one more tundra off the road hopefully a few hundred thousand more I am tired of seeing them so much now I used to be the only cool guy around with one
What's a truck then by your definition? A body-on-frame design? That's a pretty strict definition. It doesn't leave much room for innovation.
Wow, let's just agree to disagree. I can see that this is going nowhere and arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics...even if you win, you're still...special.

Good point.
I feel like I'm a Honda representative. I never considered the Ridgeline because it was simply too ugly (sorry Ridgeline owners). But it's crazy IMHO to say it's not a truck.

If the Ridgeline is a truck then an El Camino is a truck.

Ridgeline is a nice ride, but....do a search on edmunds, they had bed buckling problems (Side quarters) offroading under load.(early models, don't know the outcome)
Looked into one but tow rating is a very mild 5k when you consider GCVW. But again nice ride, just wouldn't work for me
The Bed buckling is isolated, as is the bed cracking on Tacomas. The Ridgeline does wonderfully off-road, as long as you know your vehicle's limits. It won't take you rock crawling like the Tacoma can, but it will likely be able to take you to your favorite fishing spot. One member on the Ridgeline Owner's Club (Ridgeline Owners Club | Ridgeline Owners Club) had even pulled out someone in a FJ Cruiser who had gotten stuck in a mud puddle from hell.

Yes, there is. The Ridgeline can do more, and is more versatile. The trunk is very useful and secure too. Heaven forbid you lock your keys in the trunk because you'd be SOL!
The Ridgeline, when fully loaded, can hold quite a bit. Plus, it has little to no wheel-well protrusions in the bed, and has 48" between the wheel wells. It can hold your Polaris quads, but they WILL stick out a bit. Thankfully the tailgate can hold up to 500 pounds on it when in the DOWN mode. I've stood on the tailgate and jumped up and down on it and I weigh close to 250 and trimming down.
The rear seat also has fold up seats and can swallow a 42" widescreen TV inside the cab in the box, nice and secure.

It rode so bad you couldn't use a cell phone? Wow! I'm not having that problem. At first it bounced a little bit, but now it's all better with break-in time. You must have had a messed up truck to start with. Sorry to hear you had to bail on Toyota. This is my third and I'm happy.
Congratulations on your new Ridgeline. I've had my Ridgeline since March 05 and I love it more everyday. It's been great in the sand and worst winter driving. It's one of the best thought out and functional layouts I've ever seen in any vehicle. It's the closest thing to an "all purpose" vehicle I can think of.
When Toyota gets all these bugs worked out, the Tundra will be one fine machine. I really wanted them to hit it out of the park with the new Tundra. I'm sure they'll get their quality where it needs to be in a year or two. It's just dumbfounding they've had the glitches they've had. They're just not the same bullet proof company they were when I bought my 91 Toy truck which still runs great. If they think they can still ride their past rep much further, they better think again.
a rigeline is fine if you dont need it to be a truck ... if your only towing jet skis then your fine but any real towing and your over limit ... so in my eyes they are not even in the same class ...
Enjoyed eveyone's comments. I miss many of the Tundra features (bluetooth, large center console, power mirrors, etc). Threre are always trade offs with these vehicles. In my younger days I did need the heavy hauling and power that the Tundra might be worth the "truck-like" rough ride. The Ridgeline gives me the necessary utilitarian needs to haul furniture, landscaping stuff, lumber and still gets me to my favorite fishing hole.
In my part of the country many folks have a pickup for their everyday drive and use it to have the convenience of ranching needs or light hauling. My previous Tundras were a perfict fit (sorry I sold it) and the Ridgeline is now (I hope) a perfict fit. The new Tundra would work well for folks that need to haul large loads, work truck or serious off-road needs. (or young enough that their belly doesn't jiggle from the ride...or a ballet dancers long arms to reach the bed). Advice....do take the trucks (car) for an overnight trial. I didn't and thought (having 3 previous Tundra's) that it was not necessary. My dealership and salesman were great and it would not have been a problem. As a matter of fact they offered me a swap for any truck on the lot but they all had the same issues. I am disappointed in Toyota as much as I am disappointed in myself for maiking a quick decision to buy the wrong vehicle. Thanks for all your posts.
Funny thing is I thought I purchased a FINE truck until I read all the post here because I have just over 6K on my Tundra and NOTHING has gone wrong yet with it. However, I am expecting the thing to fall apart any day now because of this forum. Maybe I should delete this site from my favorites and enjoy my new ride
I know exactly how you feel Billy Bob and I felt the same way at first. But I got a lot of extremely useful information from this forum and found some great deals on accesories. Keep in mind that the population of this forum is a drop in the bucket compared to all of the Tundra owners in the U.S. It is not fun to listen to the dissapointments that are shared here but the positive side is much larger. Enjoy you truck Brother.

I could not of said that better myself. The Tundra is a new design, with a new plant and new workers. Problems will be isolated to a few thousand and Toyota will improve this truck in the coming years. This is the same thing Nissan has gone through with the Titan (new design/new plant/workers) and mostly only people search out places online to complain and seek answers for problems. Most owners are happy and don't feel the need to post online about it.
My 2004 Titan has had the upgraded rotors/pads and a few TSB's done and I have over 48,000 miles on her and ZERO problems. It's been a great truck and Nissan has vastly improved the 2008's to be more reliable and less prone to build issues from the plant.
I have to say the new Tundra is growing on me, but I am going to wait to see what Nissan does for 2009.
