Maybe a dumb question or I missed it somewhere in the thread. But wouldn't the dealer say "You didn't pay for an alarm, so were not going to activate it"?

Ah - the "tech that knows what he is doing". I wish I was a poultry dentist.

remaining question #1. what is actually being done when the alarm is being "activated"? Anyone know? Is it the "turn key, lock and unlock with remote, flap the friver door" business?

remaining question #2. How can I toggle the alarm active arming? In other words, can I lock the vehicle without arming the alarm? Without having to go to the dealer to undo the magic dicussed in question 1?

I would like to sometimes just lock the truck with the switch , key or remote(like I do now - immobilizer only) and sometimes lock the vehicle *and* have the alarm.

I knew some one did it, just couldn't remember who. any way, there should be new instructions up on our site with the directions on how to do it, once you follow the direstions on the installs then have the tech go to the security selection on the same screen there and set your other parameters for you.

Am I missing something? To enable "normal" mode (not passive), just toggle the GBS parameter on and that's all? I don't see anything else specific to the alarm section in the "Customize Parameters" pdf floating around other than "Warning by Horn" (pg. IN-22,23).

BTW, thanks for the legwork.
The install PDF has not been updated as of 8:00 am this morning. if you need them i could email them to you, but our email is still down this morning also, so far it is looking like a 5th monday of the week right now.........sheesh.....

Is it possible to add motion sensor instead of the GBS to the alarm on the truck?

Right now I don't think so, but that may change.

WELL, you can lock it with just the switch, but if you have passive arming turned on by the chicken dentist's assistants, as you say, then it will arm, if passive is not turned on then it will just be there with the immobilizer.

ok, what will your nurse look like when you open your poultry dental clinic?

What should we expect the cost to be for activating the alarm? What does Sparks charge for this job.?

Well, for the customers that purchased here, there will be no charge, but if it's a non-customer that wants it done, service said 30, but we are usually way off from the other dealers for some reason.

With all the dealers there are, the price could vary a huge amount, so I can't say what "Moe's Toyota" might charge for instance.

From what I can tell, atleast on the 07s, the 5.7s all have keyless and immobilizer. As for 08s, I am not sure with the new Tundra grade.

I just had my dealer (Toyota of Concord) turn on my SR5's alarm system and GBS (thanks to help from Mark).

They didn't charge me because I had to help show them how to do it, but I was originally told $30 bucks.

They were surprised to learn that ALL V8's with keyless and emmobilizer had the alarm and all it needed was to be turned on. One of the service guys said "Toyota Mafia Strikes Again". LOL!

Mark told them to set the sensitivity to 8 but to get the glass tap method to work we had to up it to 10.

I want to thank Mark and Ken at Sparks and Brian and Peter at T of Concord.

Great service all around!

Mark,

If I have the limited with the alarm, but want to add the GBS, does that need to be activated by the dealer as well, or is it plug and play? (and if this has been addressed already, my SINCERE apologies.......)

Thanks,

Bill
