I am not sure why so many people get pushed out of shape from someone reporting that they out accelerating to 70 when they don’t know the conditions or the true intent of the action. At the same time, I am totally against street racing as this would involve driving where speed may take precedence over the safety of others and often involves emotions overriding a person’s ability to properly reason what is safe.
The DMV manual mentions “speed safe for the condition” along with legal speed limits. The most important is; speed safe for the condition. From what I can see from most post; there seems to be few wavers from safe conditions. Remember; speed limits were put into place because it had become obvious that most people are unable to determine what the speed safe for condition was.
If you want to rant on safety, then write about where the greatest danger exists. While some are obvious, others may be elusive.
Forth on my list is distraction. This one will vary due to each driver and may be more of a determining factor for some than for others. This may be first on the list of a busy mother who has a young child in the rear of the car and two other children along with a demanding husband to take care of at home or about.
My top three list is driving while under the influence. This does not need to be alcohol. Prescription drugs, and of course, illegal drugs qualify. It can; however be as little as a spat with your wife, girl friend, children or associate. Pressures at work will also do it.
The second and first would be harder to determine as all three usually take place with one or all of the top three present. For second I pick attitude. Most people fail to be courteous drivers and thus take action behind the wheel that they wouldn’t other wise. Common curtsy is by far the best thing you can do to increase your safety while driving. Road Rage is quickly becoming the largest killer of people on the street.
My pick for number one, however is fatigue. This has been proven to impair drivers greater than alcohol. The problem with this is that most people do not give it the same respect as the others. While some would not speed, drink or participate in road rage, they will think nothing of getting into their vehicle and driving home after a hard day at work, preceded by a poor night’s sleep, after having a spat with their wife the previous night.
If you want to continue with safety concerns, then you have to address my personal pet peeve. Most people have not had any advanced formal driver training and or education. They do not understand what their vehicles are capable of and have not been properly trained to approach even 70% of its capabilities. Because of this, they don’t even know what is safe and what is not because they have no way to determine the limits; thus have no way of telling how close they are to them, or the margin of safety they are maintaining. This leads to many people driving with less than 10% margin of safety under some conditions while being afraid of approaching 70% margin in others. It is often the people who fit into this category, that are first to rant over someone else’s actions not knowing any of the surrounding condition and or circumstances. They also are the same ones who spend time on the cell phone while diving asking someone irrelevant questions about how they are doing, and or eating in the car at the same time while taking care of personal hygiene.
A properly trained person, rested and driving free from influence can safely travel many areas of our country at well over the posted speed limit. With a little wisdom they can even be able to ascertain when and where this may be appropriate.
When someone takes down a new Vette or Viper with their truck then I will be impressed. Til then your truck is SLLLLOOOOOWWWWWW. I think a lot of folks in here have never driven anything really fast. Just a guess from the posts. They probably think their friends Neon is a fast ride.
This subject has been beat to death and my conclusions are: The guys that do it, won't stop because of anything anyone types in here. The guys that don't like that stuff on public streets, you are right, and you very well could be DEAD right when one the street racers hits you. No one is going to change anyone else's mind in here.

Everyone breaks driving laws everyday. Whether you refuse to wear your seat belt, or you do 1mph over the limit, it's still breaking a driving law.
We do not condone street racing here, and also do not allow any topics directly related to it. When a street racing thread is created, if someone reports the post to us, it gets deleted, or after just skimming the forum for some time, moderators find them and delete them as well. The safety of everyone is in our best interest. The last topic I want to read here is "fellow TS member killed from street racing accident."
A FYI to everyone that posts about this topic... please keep it civil, and respectable.

I agree in the sense that a lot of folk think that the Tundra is the end all of fast trucks, ie the Lightning for breakfast post. Thing is there are always going to be people that push the boundaries of their vehicles and now because of the internet they can boast about a kill. When I was younger I to did a bit of street racing, and I am sure I posted in my WRX forum as well. But I never believed I was invincible or that my car was the end all of performance.
As for fast trucks, yes the Tundra is pretty fast for a stock truck, its exciting to know that we run 14.1s and that we can beat alot of other vehicles, but I don't think we need to prove it on the street. That is why I always post my track times and encourage others to join. It is safer and a lot more fun and legal. Plus you get a wide arrangement of vehicles to race if your heart so desires, where else on the street are you going to have a chance to race a Lightning, then a 03 Cobra, then a Grand National, then a primer gray second gen camaro, or a new Z06. A lot of bang for the buck, I would rather drive 1 hour and pay $20 bucks, than pay a ticket for not only speeding but "racing" which is a misdemeanor in Texas. Or pay the ultimate price of killing someone or yourself.
I think this forum needs to evolve a bit. There needs to be a new spot to post Track Times, and there needs to be a spot to post kills. That way people can avoid the inevitable street racing posts and enjoy their online time. I know though the Kill section would be kind of like handing out condoms in school and telling kids to abstain from sex, but to be honest people will always have sex, condoms or not, and people will always street race, consequences or not.

i do not promote 'street racing' but i dont see too much harm in racing up to the speed limit from a red light (AFTER LOOKING AROUND FOR PEOPLE IN THE ROAD/COPS)...and besides, its fun and gives me a rush. No i do not think everyone should do it, and i do not see anything wrong with the posts about it. besides...the 5.7 just BEGS you to floor it
it is dangerous AND illegal, and i do not see it as something everyone should do, but it sure is fun...
First off, I have never once raced my Tundra, so we'll just get that outta the way first hand. Secondly, he who is without sin, cast the first stone. Everybody does stupid/dangerous things from time to time. Now, if youre going to say, well, those other stupid/dangerous things dont possibly put others at risk like street racing can, I suppose that means youve never looked for a cd while driving, talked on the cell phone while driving, looked off to the side of the road at something while driving and so forth, and so on.
Dont be a hypocrit. The same valid argument applies here that applies to questionable things on TV, if you dont wanna watch it/read about it, CHANGE THE CHANNEL/DONT READ THE THREAD. Its as simple as that IMO.
-This thread, nor anything else is going to eliminate the drag racing/street racing or whatever you want to call it. Not saying that was the goal of this thread but just thought I would throw that in there.
-Not saying all, but the majority of the racing posts are fairly easy to identify by their title. If you dont like them, dont read them.
-Lastly, I may only be 20 years old, but I now have a little girl and the racing days are over for me, so I am just growing out of that stage. So lets not try the "he's defending it because he does it" type crap.
BTW, this was not intended to step on anyones toes so dont get the wrong impression, just thought I would put in my $.02 since I was in this stage not all to long ago. Race or no race, we still have the baddest trucks on the road.

I agree with you 100%. That's why I posted here before that the more I read here I'm convinced that there are a lot of people here who just bought this truck with this false perception that it's fast or something. I hate to tell you all that it's not fast. For a truck it goes ok, but most of you have never driven anything that is really fast. I much rather read about people who bring their TRUCK through a hell hole to get to work, or towed something big. Remember it's a truck, try using the damn thing like a truck.
First of all, I never post that I race on the street. I race on the track. Just because you farm boys aren't into it, does not mean that it is wrong. Losen up a little, hell I am 43 and still like the performance end of things. If you cow hicks don't like getting on it, that is fine with me. You don't see me whining about how slow you drive. Lead follow or get the hell out of the way.
I have this in the garage, and it is not fast either. Low 11's at best. Not fast at all. So you are right, the Tundra is not fast. But it is fun. Quit bitching and let people have fun how they see fit.
Street racing is bad. I do not condone it. At the track, you have no say so what so ever. Race on!!!!!!!
Just imagine how much posting they would do if they ever drove a really fast car.
Your point is exactly what I was going to make.
In my previous line of work I was employed by a BMW dealership. Compared to an M3, M5, M6, 335i, 535i, 550i, or a 750i our trucks are dog *** slow. Not to mention some of the cars we got in on trade. I remember fondly a (996) 911 Turbo, that was broken in. Dropping the hammer on that felt like being shot out of a damn cannon from a dig, or any other speed. My other favorites were the new M5 and M6, once the wick was lit on that 5.0L V10 those cars will run away from damn near anything. I don't just mean start to pull, I mean become a spec on the horizon in front of you.
Even the run of the mill twin turbo inline 6 in the 335i, and 535i will easily outrun a 5.7L Tundra. Not to mention the silly gains those cars can get with a little electronic tuning.
Personally I believe Self Righteous people are far more dangerous then anything history has seen at a Street Race.
Self Righteous people have killed far more innocent people throughout history then cars ever will.
Mind your own business and get some self respect for gaawds sake
