I don't have the heart to tell them its now.
May want to get a picture of what your refering to, that could be helpfull to the next person if they run into similar issue.
Here ya go! This is something that I'm glad didn't take me long to figure out. I was effing around with the mod and thought about how to open it from the cab. Well, with the key in the ignition, it disables your remote. If you click your power unlock a few times, it opens too. Now you don't have to even get out lol!

I have a Pace Edwards FMJR on my 07 Tundra CM Unlimited. Will this mod work with my retractable top closed?
Does this mod mess with the backup camera or sonar?
Also, has anyone done this mod in Houston? I am mechanically illiterate!
I guess what I'm asking.........can someone install this mod for me that lives in Houston?

If you can open your tailgate with the top closed, then yes...it will function properly. The auto tailgate modification does not interact/disrupt the backup cam or sonar.

Are there any truck shops that do this kind of work?
I would look for a custom alarm installation type of place since this is a simple wire to the lock and unlock wires more or less. I would think they charge by the hour and parts required.

Ditto. I had a similar install performed by a custom stereo shop (to my trunk) when I had a sound system installed years ago. A simple wire and servo install for the experienced installer.

Re: DIY: Automatic Tailgate and Unlock/Lock Projects with Pics..
Ron R.,
I live in Sugar Land and work in Houston. I did the lock/unlock & automatic open mod on my Tundra a few months ago. It is really pretty slick. My wife refers to it as the "flux capacitor".
It really is a pretty easy job. I think the toughest part was figuring out how to secure the actuator for the lock/unlock mechanism. The rest is pretty straight forward.
As it turns out, I'm pretty sure I have an extra actuator attached to a mounting bracket.
If you are interested, I could show you my installation and/or sell you the extra actuator/bracket for a few bucks.

I got 3 524N by DEI, got the truck release to work fine but the door lock keeps getting stuck. I can't find an actulator that throw 1", where can I fine one? The DEI 524N 3/4 throw is not enough. I also read that some had modified the actulator to get more play but I don't see how. HELP??

The DEI 524N should work okay with the tailgate lock .. hmmmm odd your having issues. What exaclty is happening? is it not unlocking and locking? You said its gettign stuck but I don't understand were thats occuring, any chance for a picture to help me understand were ur problem is?
Not sure about making the 524 throw more either.
Re: DIY: Automatic Tailgate and Unlock/Lock Projects with Pics..
I'll open it up and mess with it again this weekend. my problem is when i pull the handle to open the tailgate, the rod doesn't get pulled b/c the actulator is not sitting all the way up. So its not fully unlock. Hard to explain but hopefully i'll get it this weekend.
