TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Relocating rear pwer window switch???", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Did a quick search, didn't see any mention of this. I was curious if it is possible to move the rear power window switch for the crewmax from the left of the steering wheel to the left or right of the Auxillary Audio input. Where the seat heaters are on the limited models. I have a SR5, so I have 3 blanks there. Thought it would make more sense to put in the middle, like the 4runners. Does anyone know if this is possible?
toyota placed that switch in the worse place.......should have also made it automatic.........when you hit the switch one time it takes the window all the way down.
Their "re"placement of the switch for the 2008 MY is EVEN WORSE!! They moved it to the right hand side of the steering column (where, next to my VSC OFF switch is on my 07 DC there are blanks) if that makes any sense in writing. The switch has also been redesigned, and instead of pushing the top to make it go up, and bottom to make it go down, you have to push it and pull it. I noticed that the other day on an errand when it was nice enough to open the roof and rear window. I had read about it, but did not realize the design flaw until I used it in person. Like I stated in other posts, I have no "mechancial" or "technical" issues to speak of to date (with 9400 miles on the truck) but must say that some of the characteristic and design flaws (though all minor and simple) add up...But I still love my truck and plan on upgrading to a CMax for 2010, provided they move that switch!

Loaded up with almost all Toyota had to offer, plus a few things they didn't offer...
^^ Ditto. Honda's sunroof controls are located on that side too, so I think its intuitive...just a little low. Nothing can be as bad as Ford ergonomics though...talk about hunting for and misplaced switches

I am going to attempt to move the switch this weekend. I may go with ag4ever's suggestion and put it in front of the shifter. If I am successful, I will post some pics.
I have a Ltd so I have not tried popping out my seat heat switches BUT, the dash locations where the plugs insert (in front of the shifter and the plugs and switches on each side of the stearing wheel) are KEYED. Certain switches and plugs can be relocated and others not. There is a threaded message in the TOWING section of this forum addressing the installation (with photos) of a Tekonsha brake controller in that area in front of the shifter. You will notice that the TOW/HAUL switch was able to be moved to the right side of the stearing wheel because the switch and its "dash-port" were keyed alike. Also sme plugs are just blanks and some are keyed. FYI.

GraetWhyte,
You are correct, Intitaly I wanted to move the Aux. Audio input over an put the Rear power window where that is now, but the switches are keyed Differently, so I put the rear power window switch to the right.
