TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "15k Service Prices??", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I am getting close to my 15k mark so I will need to take her in for that service. I think based on my oil change prices my dealer is a quite a bit more than other places so I would like to have an idea so I can call around a little before I take it to my regular location.
Also if you any of you So Cal guys recommend a dealer let me know, I don't hate the Toyota of Orange guys, but I haven't been dazzled by them either.
Thanks!
David

According to the Tundra manual there is nothing special about 15k. Dealers love to say that there is something special about this, but there isn't anything special about it.

The special thing is they get you in the door and talk you into a bunch of junk that does not really need touched and run your bill up. Usually they start at 30, 60,90 mile service intervals, i guess they are doing them more frequently, pays the bills the Dealership runs up vs making nothing off of new car sales?? haha!! People do not sell Toyotas and not make a profit, if they did the would have to close the doors! Majority of the cars you see in service are their for warranty and not shceduled maintenance, do not know what % either would be but would be surprised if service was over 25%! You can't have it both ways. In another thread you're bad-mouthing shops and mechanics up one side and down the other because they don't waste costly labor time by using a torque wrench to check driveshaft companion flange and carrier bolt torque. Personally, myself and any mechanics I've worked with have managed to re-install driveshafts and carrier brg. mounts in everything from pickups to Kenworths after overhauling 13 spd. Roadrangers and SQHDs (Google it) without having to use a torque wrench on driveshaft components. When you do it for a living, it doesn't take a genius to know the proper torque for any grade 5 bolt from 1/4" to 1" diameter.
Secondly, there's quite a few shops around who are honest and will go out of their way to save the customer a buck or two. Sometimes your attitude when you drive in the door enters into it in a big way.
I appreciate everybody that has weighed in so far, but please don't get too far off topic, I would like to know the answer to this without the mods deleting. Thanks!

If I remember right, there's not too much to it. Since every dealer's different, why don't you phone yours and get a quote.
Ok, took your suggestion, they quoted 154.95. They say it will include oil/filter change, inspection of brakes, adjusting of rear brakes, checking and topping off fluids...and I think he said something else but I don't remember what. That is supposed to be a deal, he told me the regular price is 190. So from anybody have a comparison?

Sounds like a $154 oil/filter change, most all of the inspections you can probably do yourself and as far as adjusting the rear brakes, they are disc brakes and do not require adjusting. Yea I know that the mechanic or tech needs to get paid for his time"inspecting" but most of that is just way overpriced IMO

I think there is a place/section in the owners manual where you can record the inspections if you do them yourself and that shouls be good enough for warranty purposes being that all you get from the dealer is a receipt and maybe some record of your visit in a database that they may or may not maintain and may only be available to the dealer that performs the service and not accesable from other dealers that may be doing warranty work i.e. you are out of town or out of state and have a warranty issue.

I just declined my 25k service "package" last week. And I think I saved $190 on my oil change!
The package included a ton of "checking" of fluids, and a muffler bearing torque belt inspection. The only thing actually drained and replaced was the engine oil and oil filter.
Next year I get a 30k service package, it includes some brake adjustments and a flux capacitor fluid flush. I hope the $280 for that is tax deductable.
I love TS forums, you get things like self-satisfaction when you save money on over-labored inspections you can do in your driveway.

oil change is $29 (unless you bought it there, then it's free)
each 5k service is $49
each 15k service is $149
each 30k service is $289
each overpriced estimate..... free
