This is a discussion thread titled "Finally fixed my dash rattle", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Saw your post and decided to try again to stop the noise. I had messed around before in that area pushing the plastic but this time I spent a bit more time and pushed a bit harder. Lo and behold the noise disappeared. I wonder how long the noise will stop but for right now I am happy. At a minimum, we now know where the problem is. I had spent enough time under the dash trying to find the source of the noise.
Thanks again.
C.
Just a quick followup: The next morning the noise was back and I had to push in the area again....Hopefully the problem does not re-occur on a daily basis......

I found the "clicking" noise to becoming from my seatbelt latch. I haven't really sorted it all yet but I found that putting a small piece of cloth between the seatbelt latch and the seat that the "clicking" went away. For some reason if you wiggle the female end of your seat latch ( this is on a console model ) it makes this noise. This drove me crazy because it only does it when I was actually moving or wigglying around in the seat but its not real loud but annoying none the less.
I had the same rattle-right side dash and the dash didn't quite line up right with A-pillar trim. Dealer test drove while cold and to my surprise was able to duplicate. They removed the dash and said there was "excessive clearance of contact points" and installed "Toyota sound dampening material" on contact points. It worked and the dash lines up with the A-pillar like it's supposed to now.
So if you have the rattle I'd have them fix it under warranty.
+1 on what you said, mine has a miss aligned seam on my right side "A" pillar too. I have no idea how to pull the piece up to make it match. It is really close to the windshield .....I wonder how they pushed it up ?

Mine had the gap also on the right "A" pillar when I first began this post. Once I stuffed the folded up felt up underneath the dash lip, it sat fine and lined up perfect, plus fixed the creaking noise. You push it up from under the glove boxes while lying on the floor. There is a huge hole there that goes all the way to the top. Takes all of about 1 min.
I've had this creaking cold dash problem as well but I noticed something else and wonder if anyone else has seen it. If I look at the dash where it meets the pillars near the windshield I see that it sags a 1/4" on the passenger side but is flush on the drivers side. I probably would never had noticed it if I weren't looking for the noise.
I had that same issue. They said at factory the robots+men failed to get the right side of dash completely seated !!!! They got it closer, but said there was no way to truly fix it without taking out entire dash and starting over - which of course may make new rattles and is a huge job.

Me too. Said factory robot+men didnt get dash installed right. Mine was fixed for a while, but came back. We are basically driving around with only 2 of 3 dash mounts fastened into frame

The problem is that they just "push it up". They dont actually install it into the frame like it was supposed to be done. The robot at the factory that lowers it in and the man who is supposed to insure it gets seated are not getting them all seated. No way to get properly installed without takign whole dash out (eeek!) - all they can do is push and force plastic up to give illusion that the dash meets pillar. Really bogus.

Jumbo, I've got the creaking/popping dash as well... I just want to clarify a few things:
1. My passenger side dash doesn't quite line up at the bottom front corner of the A-pillar. The dash (black) is about 1cm lower than where it looks like it needs to be on the A-pillar (white). Is this the same situation you had? Did this actually line up perfectly after you did your fix?
2. Thanks for the photos, they help a lot. I tried to reach up there the other day to see if I could feel what you were describing, but all I found was something that was REALLY farking hot... Most likely the heater core inlet pipe. I'll try again when I have a bit more time (and when the truck is cold). My question is: how big is the gap you have to fill? or, how much material will I need to stuff in there?
3. From what you have said, I understand that the rattle fix also has the side benefit of the dash alignment fix. I want to make sure that this isn't done in two different fixes, so I don't have to contort myself under my dash more than once.
1. This is sounding more and more common. As I men tioend earlier, my techs said the robot installing dash is not getting right connection in place (at all). They got mine up close to the A pillar, but not quite. And they dont really get it "in place" they just force padding in there to raise it up, giving thge illusion its seated upward more. Bogus! Thery admit it though. They just said to really fix it (take dash out) would likely cause a whole host of new rattles.

I've had a periodic "clack" type noise coming from the middle part of the dash, seems like somewhere around the radio area. It doesn't necessarily occur going over big bumps, just minor road irregularities; even then, it doesn't appear all the time.
When pushing/pulling on the coin holder, it seems like the clack does disappear, but since I can't replicate the clacking on demand, I'm having a hard time determining if I've found the cause.
