Good post, but make sure DRL's using the amber turn signals are legal in your state. In California, they aren't.
Amber DRLs have been legal in Calif for a while. I think you might be mistaking DRLs with parking light laws in Calif. Parking light definition is different than DRL definition. Parking lights are intended for use when vehicle is parked. DRLs are intended for use when vehicle is moving. Color of lamp rules say forward light have to be white or yellow. You can't have flashing amber lights.
Okay this is way too much info. I'll stop now.

FYI, I also did this mod and it works perfectly. Thanks Frank. I installed a Tacoma light switch on the dash in one of the blanks on the left side so I can turn them off if needed. The only thing I did that was not in the very detailed instructions was remove the entire battery to get better access to connector A10 on the headlight.
Great post, Thanks for the pics. I changed the relay but when I tried to find the ECU the dealer told me two different wrong locations for it.
So even if the wiring from the relay pin 5 to the ECU pin 8 is complete the ECU feature still has to be turned on!
I have a question I did not see answered. Or maybe I didn't check the DLR operation on my truck properly.
I have a LTD, with the DLR switch on the turn signal stalk. The instruction manual says, to turn on the DLR, rotate this ring to the DLR ICON position, and the DLR will turn on.
So, I am parked, and the engine is running, and I get out of the truck and go to the front to look at what lights are on. Nothing.
Am I supposed to be in Drive before they come on? That would explain why I could not see them. I guess I need someone to look at the front while I put it in drive....No?

Hi Tom,
Yes I beleive you are correct. Trany needs to be Out of Park, AND Emergancy Brake needs to be off. The DRL should then turn on.

Thanks for the feedback. Always nice to hear when things are of some vaule to others.

Not sure if I am following your post. Sorry, but I will try.
Have you downloaded the PDF file in the first post of this thread?
In it you will find the exact location of the ECU, which is next to the Relay.
If you follow these step by step directions the DRL lamps will light without any Dealer involement. In truth, the dealers don't know how to turn them on becuase Toyota won't share it with them.
If you haven't yet downloaded the document, and you want the DRL on for your Tundra, please do so. If you have any questions after reading it I will do what I can to answer them.
Have a great evening, I plan to,
Frank

Reason: edited to fix typo's
Just swapping the existing relay with a DRL relay will not enable the DRL on the Tundra.
However, if you Have DRL and do not want it, you can swap your exisiting DRL Relay for a Non-DRL relay and that will diable the DRL system.
I think this causes some confusion. I know it did to me at first too.
Have a great night.
Frank
I have DRL's but Im cheap and I dont want to buy the non-DRL relay. From your diagrams Im thinking I can snip the gray wire on pin5 from J29 and the DRL's will turn off but the blinkers will still work? or is this the common ground wire and the relay will not work at all if I snip the gray wire? thanks

Really, how cheap are you??
I've got a NON DRL relay sitting around, not doing me any good,
(Suppose you cut the wrong wire and damage your ECU?)
PM me if you are interested, I'll let it go cheap.

Toyota does not make it easy to enable the Daytime Running Lights on the Tundra. Nor do they seam to have any interest in helping anyone add them themselves. But that’s ok, like everything else it can be reverse engineered.
If you have an interest in enabling DRL on your Tundra you might want to click on the PDF file attached to this post and save it to your computer.
If you can follow some directions and are capable of soldering a few wires you can get the DRL working.
This design will enable your DRL to operate as follows:
q With Ignition Key “On” the Turn Signal Bulbs (27-watts) light up as the DRL.
q With Headlights “On”, the DRL will be turned “Off”.
q When using the Turn Signal, the DRL for the side you wish to signal will turn off function as the DRL and turn on function as the Turn Signal until the turn indicator is canceled. Once Canceled DRL function will return.
q If you would like to be able to turn the DRL system off at any time you can install an “Optional Switch” (of your choice).
This simple design has been installed for the last three (3) months on seven (7) 2007 Toyota Tundra’s. All have operated flawlessly.
If you would like to enable DRL using the 27-watt turn signals, as Toyota does, on your Tundra this low cost design will work for you.
