This is a discussion thread titled "Aries bull bar!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Looks great on your truck. I love the combo of black and SS. Does it interfere with the skid plate removal? I don't want to make oil changes any more of a PITA than they already are.

Looks cool, but what is the reason for it, looks or is there a function? I ask because it seems like you lost a couple of degrees in your approach angle.

The function is it kicks ***. Deer, cow, or honda pulls out in front of you it will save some damage to your truck. Deer accidents are common here in Georgia and they do a number on whatever hits them. Nothing like cruising along 45 or 50, then a deer runs right out in front of you its a mess.

dont fool yourself, the bull bar will nto save you significantly from when you hit a deer doing 50. plus, the bull bar can interfere with the airbag activation, so I just say no to bull bars or other front end protectors. my life is not worth it.

I did say save "some damage". I didn't think about the air bag issue so you have a great point there.

After reading the posts so far I would have to pass on the bull bar thing. It looks good but as for function it seems to be worthless and may even compromise vehicle safety.
While I don't know about the Tundra airbag issue, that is a BIG one we should all look into. On my Tacoma (2002) I put a brush guard cow catcher type thing on it. I asked both the car dealer and the aftermarket parts guy is this would impact my airbags. they both said NO. Why? They said that the airbags were not activated by 'impact', but by 'inertia'. Meaning, hitting stuff isn't what set them off. instead, the car rapidly stopping is what set them off. The rule, they said, was anything over 20 MPH impact would trigger it.
Thing is, they may been stupid or lying. I don't think they were, but this could be a matter of life or death. that being said, $200 is WAY worth it. Someone backed into my truck parked at the airport and took off. I didn't find it until a few days later. They hit it good, because it pushed the brush guard back about two inches on the left.
All i had to do was loosen it at home and reset it (I keep it about 2.5 to 3 inches from the grill). My point being, if I didn't have that brush guard, it would have done about $1200 worth of damage to the front end. Also, i am confident that my brush guard most likely really f*cked up their entire rear end judging by the paint and reflector pieces left behind. Truly, it pays for itself.

Brush guards, bull bars, ARB bumpers, etc. They all are made to protect your front and rear end from inconsiderate individuals that likes to hit and run. I especially like the ARB bumpers myself. I wish I can afford them, both the front and rear bumpers. No one will tailgate me or cut me off without thinking twice if I had one of them bumpers. I say, they do safe your tail if a deer cuts in front of you doing 50 or so. Just my thoughts.
Looks, good, I just have one question though. The bull bar comes with auxillary light tabs and I was just wondering if there is enough room to put on a set of 6" KC daylighters without the back of the lights hitting the bumper. I had a westin safari bar on my tacoma and I had to space it out from the bumper for these lights to fit.
