Well, I had the chance to really put the Tundra to the test in the dunes. It worked well with the exception of all of the traction control and ASP trying to compensate for the terrain. I got it dailed in running about 12lbs of air and managed to climb one of the tallest race hills--Oldmobile. Those of us who know Glamis, know Olds hill; it's long and straight up! The pics are a bowl west of Olds.
What tires you have on your truck that you were running 12 PSI .. I have BFG AT 305/65/18 's at 20 PSI and they slipped a little on the beach so I let them down to 15 and that seemed to do the trick for me now and have no trouble in the soft sand..

Always wanted to go to glamis, but i'd like to take my atv's as well. Where abouts is glamis? Best time of the year to go?
It would be a long drive for me, but if it would be worth it, i'd do it in a heartbeat.
Anybody been to St. Anthony's in Idaho? Any comparison?
Thunder mtn is pretty cool down there, & all the dunes seem to be very smooth. Anywhere i went, it was WOT on my wheeler.
its in california near the boarder. east of san diego its called imperial sand dunes but its in the city of glamis so you can call it either. 25 dollar day pass and make sure you bring a flag/whip for whatever your going to take onto the dunes including trucks. big fine if you don't. theres tons of websites on it just google it
I drove by there on yesterday and there were thousands of campers out there for the holiday. What a party!. We went out to fish creek/split mountain with the 2 wd Tundra and went thru the washes and sand without getting stuck.
NYPDBlue: I started out with 20psi in all tires and it worked well. I mainly used 2WD until climbing the smaller dunes when I switched into 4WD. But when I tried to climb the monster hill Oldsmobile (or any giant hill) I had to let down to 12psi. Then, no problem. Just running around in the sand, 20 worked great. I have the same exact tires as you: 305/65/18's on the stock TRD wheels.
The only problem with tire pressure is getting the air back in! I have a portable compressor but it will go back to walmart noted as trash! I need one that will pump up in without having to take a nap in the meantime.
Click on the thumbnail to checkout the hill from the top looking down at the startpoint. Also, you can see 2 giant white Big Fords that are lifted about 6 feet! These are street trucks that are as lifted as monster trucks.
HOLYCRAP Those two stand out ! LOL .. If you need a decent compressor try looking at the one I use .. I bought mine at PEPBOYS Auto Supply But seen them at My Local Costco too .. It clips straight to the battery with jumper cable type clips and has a guage and all .. Its Red with coiled air hose and Rubber Handle to carry it and fits in black zipper bag after use. .. the only Thing I recommend if you get this one is CUT OUT THE FUSE that is INLINE and re splice the wire back , The Fuse Gets Way Too Hot and Blows Every time .. since I by passed the fuse I have had no problems and I have had this compressor for over 1 year already .. like $55 bucks .. best investment and fills up each tire in less then 4 minutes each. I tried looking for the exact one I have online at pepboys and at costco online couldnt find it .. but $55 and to $100 units work well I have found.

Man I can't wait to take the CM to the Dunes! I need to try and find some sliders first, though. I'm not going to risk smashing mine against sand, especially as long as the thing is!

^ ^ ^these two words say it all. Looks like you had a great time. Glamis owns! I remember about 5 years ago & a Chevy backed into a Ford starting a huge brawl. The Ford guys ended up rolling the Chevy on it's roof & lighting it on fire! yeah, Glamis is not for the faint of heart. lol

Yeah, I used to pretty much live out there being that I lived only about 15 miles away. We had about 10 excellent seasons until someone or some treehugger decided that a weed (Thompson's Milk Vetch) was in danger. Then they closed about 50% of the dunes to offroaders and that included the dunes next to our secluded campsite. Now, the rangers and sherriff's deps are controling it pretty damn good. I guess that's for the best because it gets real crazy sometimes.
It is still a great place to have fun and see things you would never believe or what people put on 4 wheels and take through the dunes.
