This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra mileage!? What gives?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I know this subject is quite extensive in here. I am getting 10.5-12.5 pulling a duck boat on an alluminum trailer which doesn't weigh much more than a coke can. I get 15 without pulling it. What gives? I understand it's a truck and all, but post up your numbers. I am running 285 BFG A/T's which might have something to do with it. For the record I have the 5.7. Thanks in advance.
my computer says i get like 12 but that is way wrong if i calculate it myself. I got 19 highway last week and the truck computer only said like 13 or some sh!t!! Are you doing the calculations yourself?
My sticker (2wd TRD DC) was 16/20, and that's almost exactly what I get .
Haven't reset my milage calculator for the last 3 tanks, the average is showing 17.4 right now.
Your Crew Max is obviously a heavier truck and 4wd / big tires take off some economy as well.

I think it is ratedat 14 city.. 17hwy.. what are you complaing about?
I'm not complaining. I just wanted to be sure I had company at the pump. Someone on another forum was posting he was getting 16-17.5 pulling a similiar boat/trailer, and getting 19.5-20 without pulling it on the highway. I might have to call bs as I have NEVER had anything near those numbers. I decided to come to the credible sources over here on TS.com and get the REAL facts. I knew the Tundra's strong point was not going to be economy, and wouldn't trade it for anything. Carrry on...

Tires will hurt your mileage plus it will make your speedo off hurting your mileage calculations.
Your driving style plays a huge amount in your mileage too. I can regularly get 19-20 highway driving about 60-65 and keeping it easy on passing etc. That is how I normally drive to save fuel so it does not bother me.
I got 16 -16.25 pulling my 19 ft. sailboat over the mountains and through eastern WA over the Labor day weekend . Haven't really taken any road trips other than that so I can't give any real highway #'s with no trailer. I averaged 16.8 for the first 4000 miles in mixed driving around home . I have the 255R70 Michelin XLT's that came on the truck new .
