Default Floor mounted gear shifter

Is it normal that the gear shifter pops when shifted into park on a slight incline, such as a driveway?

It is normal to feel a little roll back of the truck and you may see the shifter move a milimeter or so. It should not "pop" out of park. I park in an inclined driveway and have always followed this procedure when parking. Foot on brake, shift to park, set parking brake, remove foot from brake. The truck never rolls back on the tranny and makes it much easier to shift into reverse next time. Hope this helps..

Huge inclines does make the transmission pop. When shifting out of park.
Not only in my tundra but all of my previous cars.

It is hard on the shift detent in the tranny to NOT use the P brake on an incline. But yes mine does roll slightly when I let off the brake when in park. I use my P brake quite regularly.

thumbster will become famous soon enough.

The pop you're describing is either from the brake/shift interlock switch releasing or from the parking pawl in the transmission clicking into place on the stop sprague at the output shaft. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the feedback, as everyone has suggested it doesn't "pop" out of park, but "pops" with the roll back. Thanks for the help, biggest vehicle investment probably a little paranoid.
