just avoid constant engine RPM's and road speeds, make sure you shift up and down through the gears alot and do lots of engine deceleration. From what I understand the engines are broken in(rings are seated, etc) at the factory on an engine dyno. The break in we do is mostly for the tranny and all the other stuff.
keep it under 70 until you are at 1,000 miles. Also, per the manual, do not tow until you hit at least. It sucks having to restrain yourself for the first month or two, but will pay off over the years. I remember the second mine hit 1,000 miles. We were on the freeway, so the wife and I looked at each and punched it!

Depends on your plans for the truck. If you plan to sell after 50,000 - 100,000 miles or plan to drive like an animal after breakin or plan to modify the intake and exhaust system then it won't matter how carefully you break in because your truck will be ready for the junk heap after 50,000-100,000 miles.
If your plans are to become a member of the Toyota 400,000 mile club then you need to drive gently during breakin and never wildly even after breakin and need to keep the motor and exhaust 100% stock and use factory original (genuine Toyota) parts when performing routine maintenance.

So let me get this right, if I modify my exhaust or intake my truck is gonna take a crap between 50-100k miles? This is the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. There is no reason your truck should crap out based on minor modifications such as intake or exhaust. In fact, most aftermarket intakes and exhausts are made of better material and can improve the longevity of a vehicle.
Also, if you think it is necessary to buy genuine Toyota parts to get to 400k miles you are dreamin. There are plenty of aftermarket products out there that are equal if not better then genuine toyota parts. Keep tellin yourself that genuine toyota parts is the only way to have a reliable truck. They only difference will be the amount you pay for Toyota parts compared to aftermarket or third party products.
Do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with buying genuine Toyota parts for your vehicle, they are good products. But the fact is that you can maintain a properly running vehicle by using other products.

Rats, you beat me to that link.
Some say, however, that it is different for cars than motorcycles. I don't know but that cycle tech sure sounds convincing.
Porsche claims they don't even need an oil change until 20,000 miles. I think their engines are cast, however, with little to no internal machining so presumably no shavings floating around.

You have GOT to be kidding me. What does changing your exhaust or intake have to do with longevity of the engine? Use factory parts?? Genuine Toyota? DO YOU WORK FOR TOYOTA??? Pppluuuuuuuleaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeee.....

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!
Page 443 in the (2008) Owner's Manual reads as follows:
Break-in period
Drive gently and avoid high speeds.
Your vehicle does not need an elaborate break-in. But following a few simple tips for the first 1600 km (1000 miles) can add to the future economy and long life of your vehicle:
Avoid full throttle acceleration when starting and driving.
Avoid racing the engine.
Try to avoid hard stops during the first 300 km (200 miles).
Do not drive for a long time at any single speed, either fast or slow.
Do not tow a trailer during the 800 km (500 miles).
