TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tool Box", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I was wondering for those of you guys with a truck tool box, if there is any way you installed it with out drilling a hole in your bed? i am getting a used one tomorrow and they guy i am getting it from said he dosent know of a way to install it with out drilling but i dont want to put any unnessary holes in my new truck you know what i mean.
thanks Jesse
The J hooks for my tool box just fit into a small hole on the top part of the railing system.. and the box was installed in about 15 minutes. All i had to do was drill 2 holes in the Box itself to align the J hooks to fasten the box down..

You should be able to find the J-hooks at any hardware store. Or you could try the places where you buy the tool boxes: Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, auto parts stores, etc.
I wouldn't worry about someone stealing the tool box. I don't think they are a hot commodity. I had one on my Titan for several years with no problems.
what everyone else said, use the J hooks. If you got it new (I skimmed), they should have been provided. Take your time to center and drill the box itself.
NYPD, dig your toolbox badge.

Thanks RocketMan .. I have a buddy that does Vinyl Lettering and decals , so if ya need anything made up give me a PM .. He does good fast work .. he did my FOP emblem on rear window too .. he would be willing to do TRD emblems too if interested. Just need a picture for him to go by for what ya need, prices reasonable ...
Also the J Hooks came with my box .. the Brand was DEE ZEE at PeP Boys for $250 after $30 rebate. so $280 out the door with $30 back in mail. I believe its 63" side to side.

I installed a trio of Weatherguard boxes in my '08 regular cab long bed a few days ago. I was able to install the cross box with the provided J-hooks, but found that the Super Lo Side boxes were going to require a different approach if I was going to mount them hard up against the rails as I wanted to. However, it turned out that I only had to drill the rail caps, not the rails themselves. There are a bunch of punched holes in the rails into which the caps clip. I made use of those, drilling out a couple of the cap clips and drilling corresponding holes in the toolboxes. It worked great.
I did have to drill 4 holes in the bed to accommodate the rear side box supports, but this is a work truck that I plan to have for a long time, so I'm not afraid to put a few holes in it. Due to the flimsy nature of the tailgate, I plan to have an aluminum diamond plate protector made, and that'll require a few more holes to secure the bottom end of the plate.
There's some nice tool box/aux. fuel tank combos out there if you guys aren't aware...Toolbox and fuel tank combos
THATS SWEET !!!!!!!

I have a similar setup to brow, it works well. Since my mountain bike attaches to the back of the box, I have to keep the box slid way up against the front of the bed for it to fit with the tailgate up; a couple 3/16" strips of rubber attached to the tool box keep it from rubbing the paint.
