Didn't look too bad, check Spark's, they have the directions on their website.
FYI, most of us that have the Factory remote start really don't like it much. Search "factory remote start" for all the reasons.

The factory remote start is listed as having an extremely short range,a maximum range of 100 feet. The range will be even less through walls or windows.I would not even consider a remote start with such a short range.
Don't get the factory one. I have it and should have waited and got an aftermarket one. The factory unit only works at about 30'. It's OK at home where you can start it out the window, but anywhere else (parking lot at a distance) it is useless. Seriously 30' max.
Yes, I understand that the factory one is not very good. But I was thinking that there would be less issues then with an aftermarket one in going into the truck and crimping and soldering wires. Wondering if it voids warranty when someone other then Toyota does the install. I am just paronoid of some bad installer messing up something.
The dealer will install an aftermarket RS, and then they are responsible for it...they did mine...I think its an AutoMate...works great and is covered under Toy warrantee...B.

Don't do it. It has short range and as soon as you unlock the door to load up something, the truck shuts off. I had a remote starter (which I installed) in my 1997 Dodge Ram. It worked threw walls and from inside my house. This one does not. I could also start the truck up and load or unload it while it was running. This one does not. I also could take the key out of the ignition (after pressing a button) so I could unlock my cap and unload, all while the truck was running. Toyota's does not. You are much better and probably cheaper to get an after-market remote starter. Toyota just put a cheap one in and charged a premium for it. I'll probably end up removing Toyota's and put in my own.

Definately go with an after market one. you will be more options, range and 2-way if you want it. plus you can have the door locks programmed on it too and get rid of the factory door remotes.
The ONLY downside to an aftermarket one is that you lose your Valet key...
Had aftermarket remote starter installed by a great technician. I ordered a Code Alarm remote that has a minimum of 500 feet range. Seems to be a very good quality unit. After truck starts a light flashes to let you know that truck has started. Installation and unit cost was approx. $300.00. Sure beats the toyota deal in my book.

Good thread. I've been debating in my mind for a few weeks.
I read through the OEM install directions from Sparks. I consider myself a DIY-er, but this looks like a tough nut to crack. You gotta take essentially the whole dash apart as well as the steering column...
Prolly end up just paying someone to install and aftermarket.
