Default Who's got 22's on their 5.7? Pics and advice please?!?!?

Hello,

I have about 500 miles on my new 07 Crew Max and I am not crazy about the look of the TRD 18 inch wheels?

What are the real world ups and downs to going to a 22?

I see that Toyota offers a 22 TRD rim, but for 5 grand!!!!! I am thinking more like Less Schwabb or tire rack?

Thanks ahead of time, and Happy Holidays!!!!
Jacob

Well if you ever plan on driving off road you should not put 22's on as the reduced sidewall will result in bent ruined wheels. The 22's will also have a questionable affect on ride quality as the unsprung weight of the vehicle will go up markedly. Tires are much more expensive and you have less to choose from, also finding tires with a good load range might be difficult.

Advantages include..... cosmetics (completely subjective).

I have the factory 20" rims. I like them. I am a pavement driving 4x2 but they do well by me. Look on ebay. I've seen several sets of 20" factory wheels for sale. You will need to reuse your TPMS sensors though. You will still have an 18" spare unless you can find someone to sell just one. Then if you like the 20" wheels you can sell your 18" set and recoup some of the cost.

I agree the TRD wheels are outrageously priced.

I agree with Coal Dragger on the con's and bought mine (KMC 22"wheels with Toyo Open Country A/T 325/50/22) only for cosmetic reasons.
I don't think thë 18" TRD wheels are to bad, the BF Rugged Trails however are one of the worst/dangerous tires I ever had on a vehicle.

I don't think gravel roads should be a problem for 22"s on that truck, but if you cross over big rocks, ditches, unimproved trails etc. don't bother with the 22"s.

The only other use factor I would look at if I were you is the load rating for 22" tires if you plan on hauling or towing much.

It's also the sidewall of the tire you want to mount on the 22 inch wheel. The more sidewall, the more protected the wheel is.

Thanks guys!

What do you think is so Dangerous with the B.F. Goodrich Rugged Trails?

Fshol, are those big meats rubbing at all?

What other mods do you have, and what kinda gas mileage are you getting?

Are you happy with the purchase?

Thanks,
Jacob

On my 05 Frontier I went through 3 blow-outs on Rugged Trails before biting the bullet and putting new Yokohamas on, which I never had problems with.

First thing I did when I got my Tundra was swap the Rugged Trails for AT's, which have been great for 20K miles so far.

07 DC SR5 TRD 4x4 5.7 TRD exhaust, 46K miles, 17 mpg city after battery disconnect reset. Truxedo Lo-Pro with deck rails. Front Susp: Stock coilovers, 4" lift (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...6-4-inch-lift/), swapped extra spacers for Bilstein 5100s on lowest setting, wheel well height still 41.5." Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43." Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper. After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/, 295/70, or 35x12.50/18. Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now. Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed. Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.

just dont go larger than 22's. i thought 20's were the largest that looked non ghetto but i changed my mind when i saw the pics posted above, those trucks look good. probally not what i would do but i have no complaints and will actually offer compliments on those. 24's or larger are just nasty ghetto IMO.
