Number 3 will NOT happen, and 4 most likely won't happen. It's an epidemic with many new vehicles.

I'm afraid you are right. I would be OK with a high-quality dash kit though. I suspect that the exterior paint quality issue is probably the result of some government regulatory thing that Toyota can't do anything about.

I too would be interested in diesel. I don't pull that much, but the diesel engines last forever and I would like that part.

I'd like to see the instrument gauges change. I really like the layout of the gauges on the SEMA concept dually. What we have now kinda reminds me of my old 240-Z.

I'm going to say there will be absolutely no changes. The Tacoma hasn't been changed since its redesign in 05, so I'm guessing the Tundra will be the same...

The tunnel gauges remind me of the Z.

lol, same year and same color. God, I loved that car. I've been looking for some on ebay and they are going for well over 10k in nice condition. I've been trying to find a way to convince the wife to let me get another one and restore it to factory condition, but she's not budging. Got a buddy whos a Z nut too and we've been dreaming of a project 240 for years. They're becoming rarer and rarer.

Dealer salesperson told me. Toyota is testing the diesel now. Should be ready for 09. I don't think it's uncommon for Toyota to stay quiet.

It needs a spin on oil filter for the 5.7 ( or a chance to get to bltch slap the moron who used this type of filter and placed it where he did every time you change your oil) , 475 hp- 600 pounds of torque, molded dash plastic not painted on, better quality exterior paint, colder AC, better fit- finish, logo delete option, bed bounce issue resolved, better steering feedback at higher speeds, ceramic brake components option, bigger gas tank ( filling the tank every 260 miles is a pain in the ***), locking fuel filler door, thicker windshield glass, either paddle shifting or at least a manual gearbox option, better grill protection for radiators, hi-low Xenon headlights.

I have more suggestions but the wife has my dinner ready.

No way. Range is important to many drivers, especially people who live in rural locations.

While I usually instantly disregard anything coming out of a salesperson's mouth, I hope he is right on this one. The big three are looking to have 1/2 ton diesels on the market for '09 and with gas still going up it is gonna be hard to overlook them.

Toyota is the type of company that doesn't make changes to cosmetic type items like interior materials or paint. So #1 is the only thing Toyota is likely to improve since it's a structural weakness that affects the functionality of the truck.

#2 & #4: Every major car maker nowadays uses cheap looking and feeling interior plastics and dash material in low end and middle of the road models. The plastic of some new Chryslers is so cheap even your fingernail can scratch it very badly and noticably. Ford dash and door panel plastic doesn't show the scratches, but it still has a cheap look and feel to it. Toyota and GM plastic is in the middle of these two extremes.

Even luxury car interiors (Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac, Lincoln, Mercedes) have gone downhill in recent years (lots of hard plastic and thin carpeting)

I've seen a lot of knocks against the interior of the latest Tundra. Has anyone seen an '07 GMC?? My brother-in-law has one, and it doesn't come close to the luxurious of my '07 DC Tundra. By far, the new Tundra has the best looking interior I've seen in a truck. I know this thread isn't about interiors, I had to get that off my chest.

I want a much bigger gas tank. I don't mind stoping every 250 miles when towing, I just don't want have to. The bumpers need to be of a much stronger metal.

As much as I want to see "higher quality materials" used, corporate mindset (cough...stock price...cough) doesn't care about that I don't think. In days of old I think Toyota's mindset was different, now I think it's morphed into the typical - "how do we make it cheaper and still get by" mantra.

Think of it this way, if they're the only ones making a truck out of higher quality materials (ie: better metal on bumpers, interior components, etc) and there's no competition, why spend more $ than they have to? They can cheapen the cost and still compete...investing less $ (cough...stock price...cough). Golden opportuinity for another manufacturer to step up in my mind. Anyways, I'd like to see

1. A Toyota management and quality mindset from the early 90's with today's technology
2. Tailgate issue resolved (fix the design)
3. I'd like to see a spin on filter yes
4. bed metal that doesn't flex when I step on it (won't happen I know - too much capital alreasy invested in presses, tooling, etc)

As far as the diesel - it's not worth it to me. A stroker is $7k option and fuel is $0.50/ gal more than gas here. Attractive part of a diesel used to be mileage and fuel cost - now with the EPA noose tightening costs have gotten way high - no payback for the guy who just wants it. If you need the power that's a different story.
