Default Retrax versus Roll-N-Lock

Getting my 2008 DC this week and am trying to order accessories. I've got an 01' Dakota Quad Cab with a Roll-N-Lock, but not sure if I want that for the new Tundra.

The only complaint I have about the Roll-N-Lock is that it is very easy for debris (leafs, etc.) to end up in the canister. Once a few leafs get in there, they block the drain holes and the box fills up with water. some leaks into the bed.

I can't tell from the pictures I've seen of the Retrax if it suffers from the same problem or not. Can anyone who has the Generation III version comment on this?

All thoughts on the subject will be greatly appreciated!

Default Re: Retrax versus Roll-N-Lock

Can't comment on the leaf problem, but here are some differences, not saying good or bad, just saying...:

Retrax is not spring loaded like the R&L. Move the cover to any position at will. Retrax does not have a tailgate piece and does not lock your tailgate (which is no big deal since you have a tailgate lock). If the Retrax partially covers your stake pocket holes, you can order it with the the stake pockets cutout on the Retrax. Retrax's canister is larger than R&L's canister. Retrax's Lexan is very glossy. You should occasionally apply a protectorant on it just like the R&L. If you get a Retrax, be sure to order the optional lock cover.

Yeah, the R&L's limited locking positions has been a downside a couple of times.

A major plus for the Retrax is the cutouts for the stake pockets and being able to keep the deck rails.

The only plus to the R&L that I see is the lid on the canister sits high enough above the rolled up cover that an antenna mount can be put on the lid for ham radio. If I go with the Retrax, the antenna will have to go on a stake pocket mount.
