TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "2008 tundra lights", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
WEIRD! That button is strange looking. Mine is a flush mounted toggle style switch...
Well ThirdHorseman, we're charting the changes for the 2008 Model year...that's one of the little things. The switch is moved from the left-hand side of the steering column to the right-hand side and the type of switch changed as well...
By the way, I'm still INCREDIBLY envious of your truck!

Many reviews are that the 07 switch is better than the 08 switch. I don't remember Toyota ever using a rear window switch like the one on the 08 before. Looking back at the 4Runner, Sequoia, and my old 04 Tundra Double Cab, the switches have all been similarly mounted switches, not like the one that sticks out on the 08s. I don't know what Toyota engineers were thinking this time..
and on a side note, one of the minor details Toyota also missed on the Double Cab (at least mine, with an MSRP of just under $43,000) is that ability to have a power rear window...I know that the former Access Cab Limited had a power rear sliding window (not the one like my double cab obviously) but similar to the existing one on my new Tundra, only with a lovely power switch. I had my new truck for a few summery months and the rear window has only ever been opened once...

I think they hit right on this time. The location of the switch in the 07 or 08 makes it hard to see. The design of the 08 makes it very easy to find without looking. It is also very intuitive to use. I know that I am in the minority on this one, but I personally like this new switch. At least a few 07 folks must think like me, because several are reloacting the switch to the center console, with the 08, that would be unnecessary in my opinion.

I agree with you. Mounting the switch on the right side of the panel allows the front passenger to operate the rear window when the driver is momentarily out of the vehicle (leaving the keys of course). If my '08 didn't have the switch where it is, I too would have been relocating it somewhere on the right of the steering column.
I like both switches I was wondering swhat was the difference in the two now I see
just kind of wanted to find out what lights up and what don't.Compare and contrast.

The contour of the '07 switch makes it easy to find by feel, there's no need to look for it. I do agree that the center console is a much better place for it though. Even so, it doesn't bother me enough to go to the trouble of relocating it.

I believe the reason you can have a roll-up/down rear window on the DC is due to the design of the truck. The rear window on the DC is slanted forward and this will not allow the window to go staight down like in the CM. The styling design feature is the reason I did not buy the DC over the CM, I just don't like the side profile IMO.

I don't want the window like in the CrewMax (well, actually I definately want it, but I know it couldn't happen with the way it's designed, and I do miss the rear window of my old DoubleCab). But I think the rear window should be sliding (in the same fashion it is now) only power...As it was in the old Access Cab Limiteds. I have no idea if this response was directed towards my post, but I figured I'd clear it up in case I was vague last time
