TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Residual $$ Values", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Remember the "old days" when all Toyota trucks held their value at the top of the pack? Now that the factory rebate is $4000.00 on 2007's bye -bye residual value. OUCH!
I didn't purchase my Tundra as an investment. I needed a good truck. I shopped around at all the dealerships. No one would give me a deal on a truck except the Toyota dealership. I was leaning towards ANOTHER Toyota when I was looking so that sealed the deal. They took some money off the MSRP for me and I got a sweet loan. I sold the Toyota truck I had when I purchased the Tundra. I drove it 15 years and put over 172,000 miles on it. It still looked and drove nice when I sold it to a lady here. I got 1/3 of what I paid for the truck new. I wouldn't say that was bad. If you buy new trucks every year then the rebate may hurt you on resale but if you are like me and keep them then it doesn't mean much. That scenario can play out with any brand of truck you purchase.

He has a valid point. American Trucks have been doing this for years which is why Toyota held their value so well in market. Now that Toyota is offering crazy cash back incentives they too will decrease in resale value.
If you buy a Truck and there's NO Cash Back incentives and then after a year theress $5,000 cash back incentives those folks who purchased before the cash offer just lost an additional $5k.
The other thing to look for is who is purchasing what vehicles at fleet. Example. You buy a Ford Exploder, well so do all the rental car agencies, corporate America, government agencies and many others. Once those vehicles turn 2 to 4 years old these agencies dump these vehicles on the used car market impacting Supply and Demand there for further reducing that vehicles resale value.

That is why I buy a new one every year. It does not matter to me what the rebates are. I wait till I think the rebate is at its peak before I trade. That way I am getting the rebate off the new one and I am getting The rebate less on the trade in. I guess you get the picture. It really doesn't matter to me the amount of the rebate.

Very weird logic. Sorry bro, but that is not how it works. When you go to trade it/sell it, you think they are gonna say "hey, you got a $4K rebate?" lol. Relax, your truck resale value is still in line.
