This is a discussion thread titled "Bald tires may suck in rain, but they sure work good in dry!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Re: Bald tires may suck in rain, but they sure work good in dry!
Traction, grip and braking are why we run "slicks" on my race car. We only use grooved tires if it rains. On the street you can not know what the road conditions will be all the time so grooves and thread depths are mandated as a safety factor.

Ditto.... I would never try to run with bald tires on the road, you never know what situations you may run into.

Treaded tires are not designed to be run bald for many reasons. Tire compound quality can vary throughout the tread depth and usually gets worse on the last bit of tread.

Not to mention that by the time you have worn the tread down that far, the tires have been baked and heatcycled many many times. This hardens the rubber and reduces grip.
