This is a discussion thread titled "Houston Dynamat Installers", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Does anyone have a recommendation? Between my bass and a little exhaust drone I could use a little of this stuff but dont want to just pick some guy out of the phone book. Thanks.
my suggestion is to go and talk to some of the local specialty shops and get a sense of the people. Ask them questions and see how readily they are to spend time educating you. If they care enough to take care of you before you buy, they will generally be even better when you become a customer. If you have them, check out your local Best Buy for a certified installer. Not that many focus on matting in the retail shop, but they might work with you off hours. I have been doing car audio for 22 years as a hobby, so I do everything on my own, but I certainly bend the pros ears every chance I get!
Check out my gallery for some recent matting pics....

You wanting to do the whole truck or just certain parts? The Interior is really easy to disassemble so I would suggest doing it yourself, but if you want someone to install it I would suggest you stay away from Car Toys. They butchered my friend's truck on an $8k install and wouldn't own up to any wrongdoing.
Save a ton of money and do it yourself. The interior is a breeze to take apart and put back together. I did my whole interior in 2 weekends. I could have knocked it out in a single weekend but I took my time and did a thorough job.
Theres really nothing to it. I bought mine on ebay for $83 for a 36 sqft. bulk pack. My double cab took 3 bulk packs. All the doors got 2 layers and the front floor did too. Rest of the truck got single layer and it made a HUGE difference.

jeez so much matt right there. i just bought the door kits only like 12 sqft hope it at LEAST does something you know?
damn nice. Come to Houston and I'll buy you some Taco Bell for your trouble.
I dont have the time with 3 kids so I need to pay for the install.
I dont have kids myself, but I understand where youre coming from. I would still buy it off of ebay because odds are the local stereo shop will charge you retail for the bulk packs which I believe is around $275 for one box.
lol, if we lived close to each other I'd be glad to help you, no Taco Bell though, I'll do it for some Chick Filet.

I hope it does something for you too. I dont anything to compare it to besides not having any, then having a ton of it. I've never used the speaker kits, I've only done full jobs. It should make some difference for you though.
Mine is 108 sqft. total to be exact. 3 36 sqft. bulk packs. It made a huge difference in the truck. It is so quiet in there now, exhaust drone and road noise is almost down to nothing. The doors feel like their 4 inch thick steel and they shut with the solid "thud" of an S class Mercedes. I used to have to listen to the radio with the volume around 20-22 while driving down the highway. Now I can comfortably listen at around 8-10......... thats a major difference. I would highly recommend it to anyone planning on doing a stereo upgrade.
i wouldnt ask you to do that but I appreciate the offer. Still would like to have a ref. on a local shop that could do it. The prices at some I've seen are $180-$200 for full kit on the Dynamat Extreme.
So Jumbo it really makes a big difference? Do you have stock exhaust or aftermarket?

Yeah, it made a major difference in my case. I'm not sure what the road noise difference would be if you just use a speaker kit, probably not too much, but for the job I did the difference is night and day. Like I said above, I've cut my radio volume in half and everything is much clearer. Driving in the rain is the biggest difference. I no longer hear the water splashing up on the doors while I'm driving. The drone on the exhaust is gone and barley noticeable.
Because I got the Dynamat so cheap I went a little overboard with it and really put it everywhere. All the doors got 2 layers, the outer skin and inside the door panel. The front floors and transmission hump got 2 layers also, and the rear floor and back wall have a single layer.
$180-$200 is still pretty expensive. To give you an idea of how far it will go, I used one full bulk pack to do the back wall and back floor (the picture is above). There are only 9 pieces in a bulk pack so it doesnt go as far as youd think.
Would you consider buying it from ebay for $83 a pack and having them install it? Or maybe just do it yourself one door at a time on a free weekend. Even if it takes you a month to complete it, its still alot cheaper than paying $200 a pack for it. You could do one door in about 2 hours. Take the kids to grandmas and knock some of it out one weekend, lol.

It makes a huge difference overall for not only the radio, but road noise and exhaust. I did a dash to rear, including the roof on my 4Runner about 6 years ago and it turned it into a Lexus as far as solidity and sound. I Installed an extensive stereo with 3 12's and separates in each door. The truck never would have made it without the matting. I have a Jardine badged Thorley exhaust and a deck plate mod, so lots of noise is available. Message me and I will give you the link on car domain.
My current project on the 07 tundra, see my pics in my profile, are for the doors and rear glass area only for now. When I have time I will do the floor pan and the roof, but I have a sunroof, so it will take a little more time.
BTW-- Anyone tried to take the headliner out yet? the 4Runner took several hours to get it out.....hope not with the Tundra!!

Have ordered the 36 sq ft Dynamat Ext. via ebay for $85 plus shipping. Got 2 of them but still need a recommendation for a Houston installer. Can't do it on my own time. Please help.
I go to Tweeter off Kirby near 59.......right near Goode Company BBQ. Ask for Mike. He's a top notch installer. Tell him Ron sent you.......the guy with the Red F150 that burned. Yep, all my dynamat went up in smoke.........alongwith my Alpine HU and JL Audio speakers...........bummer.
