TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Single stripe ?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I tried power braking the other day and I noticed that I had to turn the A-LSD /stablilitrak button on in order to do it. The trac kept kicking other wise and would only spin for a sec until the engine throttled back.

Did you turn off the traction control? you have to hold the button down for 4seconds or so and then you will see the VCS OFF light come on. Then you are good to go.

Okay, I am confused. I thought the truck did not have a true limited diff. If that is the case with all nannies turned off you would leave one mark depending on the surface you were on. Could someone verify?
you dont want the LSD on.
When the LSD is engaged it will hit the brakes on the wheel that is slipping and try to divert power to the wheel with the most traction. LSD puts the brakes on the wheel that is slipping. Turn off all traction control if you want to burn out.

Ive never did a burn out on my truck. I feel like id destroy my tire and abuse my engine and brakes for no reason.
Most i do is let the the wheels sqeel a little bit on turns.

So is it bad to do it with the A-LSD on then. Does it do anything to the rear case??
it will just wear out your brakes, wont hurt the gear case. but a brakestand isnt exactly the best thing for your brakes either. lol
technically though, if you are on level ground with equal traction on both tires. your A-LSD should never kick in anyway, because with equal traction on an open diff. both wheels will spin the same.

I really need to read my manual...I didnt realize there was a true "off" when you hold the button down. Well, learn something new....
yeah its simple just hold downt he traction control button and then you will see two lights come on. One is a car with swiggly lines on it and the other is a VSC Off sign.
THis is what you need for mud sand b/c it allows the tires to paddle through the mud/sand.
Use the LSD in instances where one of your wheels has almost zero traction and you need to get the other wheel some more power in the rear. If you get stuck in 2wd with traction control off you might want to put the LSD on and see if you can free up both tires before putting it in 4wd.
As far as peeling out or fish tailing etc... any kind of fun/dangerous driving Hold the traction control button down and wait for the VSC Off light to come on.
I would leave all the traction nannies on in the snow or ice/ Unless your plowing through some deep stuff then you might have to put it in LSD but i dont know jack about driving in snow so ill let someone else confirm or correct me there.
The traction control is AWESOME on this truck and i have never had a car with it so i am VERY VERY VERY impressed how the truck handles.
I broke the rear end loose on a turn in the rain a few days ago and the truck compensated for my excess speed and gas and straightened me out very quick.

Beats me, I leave 2 beautiful black marks behind me when I do a burnout, but I dont do a brake stand, I follow a simple 2 step process, 1. I remove my foot from the brake pedal, 2. I press the gas pedal to the floor. If I do this process in a fluid motion, I can do 2 stripe burnouts to my hearts content.
