Ok guys...I know that I did not buy my Tundra for having the best MPG ratings, but I have a 4x4 Crewmax TRD 5.7L. It is brand new with less than 400 miles on it. I am avg 11.5 mpg and want to know if the MPG's get better as I continue to break it in? Also...any mods to increase the MPG's?
it will get better in the summer when they stop putting 10% ethanol in the damn fuel

25-30 ft Travel Trailer....... bye bye Pop-Up
Yes, it gets better as you put more miles on it. I have a 4X4 DC TRD 5.7. Mileage varies among trucks and especially drivers. My Son gets 14.5 on our truck - I get 16.5. The truck also has to "learn" your habits. One suggestion I have is to keep your computer set so you can see the instant mileage for a while. This will teach you what your truck likes and dislikes.

What kind of driving are you doing? I get about 15 overall, but I don't put my foot on the petal much. I find that when I drive around 65 most of the time, I could get the best mileage. But when I venture beyond that, say 75 mph, my mpg really goes to the toilet fast! So most of the time I just try to stay in the 65, but sometimes I just gotta punch it cuz what's the fun in driving 65?
I didn't reset my mpg calculator til it hit 1400 miles. My 4x4 avg was 16.3 with normal, mixed driving. (no 4x4 usage) That included one long roadtrip, but it also included a little time towing our travel trailer.
I reset it and it got 15.2 last week.
Your 11.5 mpg sounds low. Are you doing any off-road? Or maybe you need to get your foot out of the bell housing. (easier said than done)
I just turned 500 miles today and was getting about 13.5. It was about 11-12 for the first tank and has been going up since then. I've heard of guys with these trucks getting up to 16.5. I have a 07 DC limited 4X4 and plan on adding an AFE intake, DC headers, and a cat back exhaust. Not sure about the exhaust yet but I would like to have a chambered muffler and an H-pipe. I was also thinking about an underdrive pulley and throttle body spacer. I just want to find a TB spacer that doesn't whistle. Also, in regards to the pulley, I don't recommend under driving the alternator but in Alaska I don't even need my A/C. This is all less stress on your engine and improved efficiency thus, more power and mileage. Also, weight and gears and aerodynamics play a part but I don't think you want to go that far. If so, PM me and I'll see if I can help.
I'd be happy if I get 16 with these mods but I'm also doing it for the power. Hey, it beats the 10mpg I got in my last truck.
I get 16 in town, 18 on the highway and 14.5 towing, currently have 6000 miles. 2007 Crew Max Super White SR5, 5.7 My last trunk, Chevy K2500HD Diesel only got 14.
My truck (yes I finally finished a deal on one) a 5.7L 4X4 DC limited, has thus far managed about 15.5-16 MPG on the highway. I have yet to drive it much in town, but don't expect much from it.
I live in South Dakota in the Black Hills, I have lots of elevation changes, and the wind this time of year blows incessantly 20-30mph. Combine that with crappy winter gas, and colder temps that keep the engine from reaching optimal temp quickly and you have a bad time for fuel economy.
I wish I could tell you what to expect on a flat nice road, but I have over 2000ft of elevation change on the way to and from work. On the few flat looking stretches it has gotten right around 17-20mpg at 65mph.
I have less than 200 miles on the clock though, so who knows what will happen with the mileage in another 10,000 miles.
I get about 13.3 to 13.7 almost all highway. DC 4X4 5.7. I don't want to know this tank the truck was in 4WD almost all day yesterday and our parking lot at work is almost 3/4 of a mile long.....had some fun out there

No offroading yet. I bought the 4x4 for when I go hunting. Riding up and down levy's, you never know if and when you will get stuck. I have not really been hitting the gas hard due to the break in period of 1000 miles. Some replies said keep it under 65 mph for the most part and I should see some improvements. Others said to aid air-intake, exhaust system, etc...of course I don't know anything about all of that. I will hopefully see the improvements the more I drive it and the more miles that are added. Thanks!
Do they use Ethanol down there ? If so, that's a real mpg killer. The cold and ethanol can kill 2-mpg
If you are using an ethanol blend. That alone will reduce you mileage by 2-mpg. Now it's winter. The two are a bad combination for good mileage. I do get better gas mileage at 65. But I can't stay there long. I just can't. I tell you I can't.
