TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "The Redesigned 2009 F-150", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
This will be displayed at the auto show in January and on sale in August. Anyone concerned about this truck? I've see a few pics of it and it doesn't appear to be any better looking exterior wise...not sure about interior. I wonder how much they will ramp up the performance to compete against the Tundra.
I owned a 05 Supercrew and just couldn't accept the fact it was a pig to drive. I had a great chance to sell and I took it.
One thing about the current F150 is that it rides better than any of the 1/2 ton trucks on the market. So in terms of ride I expect they will find some way to improve on the truck but acceleration/braking is the biggest thing that needs to be addressed.
I'm happy with my Tundra and I hope Ford gets back on track with the new truck.
I had a '96 F150 (traded it in on my Tundra), and really liked it. It was rock solid and served me well. I expect to keep this Tundra for a LONG time, so what the other's do with their trucks really doesn't concern ma at this point .

My only Ford was a Ranger Ext Cab with the 3.0 V6! I had that tuck for 2 year and spent over 600.00 service work! The motor was weak, and the MPG was about as good as my Tundra is!
i actually like really like the exterior of the F150. i was actually looking at the 06 supercrew fx4s. but the acceleration was a little sluggish and it looks like they also experienced problems establishing credible fuel economy numbers. many people were happy to see 10-13 mpgs in real world driving and that is what swayed my decision, along with a lot of reliability issues. i had never heard of "changing out trannys at 30K" and "lemon lawing" trucks before searching through the ford forums. tough break. the last thing i need is to be fighting over warranty issues for a brand new truck. so i ended up with an 06 dc limited tundra(which is a whole other story), at the time.
now if they(ford) could eek out a few more ponies/torque and efficiency out of the 5.4, it would be interesting to see how the new truck will do. i dont see that happening, but until then, i think the toyota 5.7 is selling itself right now and will continue to do so for a while.
edit: the ford crew cab i was looking at was black with the two tone interior. i think they are one of the best looking trucks period, in black. the slate gray looks good too, but i definitely would have put up with washing it twice week had i gotten the black one! i wasnt crazy about the 07 tundras when i first saw them in the catalogue at the dealer. looked like a cross btw a titan and a ram. but, its always different to see something in person.

My '07 Tundra replaced a 1990 Ford Ranger that had been in my family since '94 or so. It had the 2.3L 4-cyl. engine and had been, at various times, treated like a redheaded stepchild by various members of my family. It would not die. I had to rebuild the top end at one point (head gasket failure) but in 13 years of ownership nothing ever really went wrong with it.
When it was time to move to a full-size truck earlier this fall, I was looking at F-150s and Tundras. In the end I liked the styling of the Tundra more - plus all the space behind the seats of my RCSB - but I think I would have been pretty happy with an F-150. They are pretty nice trucks, all told.
