TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Need some help!! 2008 CrewMAX SR5 or LTd?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I am looking to purchase a 2008 Tundra Crewmax. I have searched for the following and hope y'all (texas thang) can help.
I am leaning towards a SR5 cause I don't like chrome mirrors, and door handles. But, can't get factory leather or sunroof on a SR5 from gulf states at least from what I see on the site.
So now if I go LTD, I will have the chrome painted black problem solved right?
Ok, before I spend the money on a LTD. Questions:
1. Is the sunroof std cause I dont' see an option for it when building the ltd.
2. Does the crewmax ltd have memory on the seats and mirrors?
3. Is the leather heated?
4. The TRD on my tacoma makes the ride "hard" same issue on the crewmax?
5. Are the backup sensors worth a poo?
Anything else I am missing or not covering in comparing these two models?

4 never owned a tacoma
5 dont have sensors back there.
sorry cant be much help but i love my truck if that helps any
1 sunroof is standard on a limited
2 yes the limited will have memory seats and power steering wheel controldif you dont get the towing mirrors
3 yes it has heated leather seats
4 yes i thought the ride was a little harsh on the trd model so i bought the non trd Limited
5 if you get factory nav with the limited you will have a backup camera (i love mine)
i wouldnt get a sr5 because they look cheap inside compared to the limited ... but then again the limited cost alot more so its your decision
if you get the tow mirrors you will not get chrome mirrors but you will loose the power steering wheel controls and the memory seats with the tow mirrors

Limited has many nice futures not found on the SR5. Options list is difficult to decipher.
Sensors are extra and are a must have after you have lived with them. They are included in some of the packages. Same for the backup camera.
Sunroof is an option. There are like four or five option packages which include things like (cold weather package, which includes heated seats. Sunroof is on one of the others, as is navigation and rear DVD. I found that the many of the sales people do not even know the options so don’t trust their opinions. Toyota Web site is little better and confusing. Furthermore, the window stickers do not clearly indicate which package and what is included in the package the truck has. Very confusing.
Good luck with figuring it out. If you do, it may be nice to list info for those who follow.
If you try to build your own Tundra on the Toyota website, try something interesting: enter different zip codes. You will be presented with entirely different option packages, engine / body / drivetrain styles, and pricing structures. Some things will be listed as factory installs which are actually dealer installs, and other combinations will be unavailable. Take your time looking, and you'll be happier with your final truck! Good luck.

1. Sunroofs are not standard there options on the crewmax or you can install a bigger one like my friend did on his 2007 Crewmax 5.7 Limited with red rocks leather interior.
2. Memory seats are standard on crewmax limited with tilt and telescopic sterring wheel.
3.Heated seats is standard on limited grade.
4. Trd is indeed rough have that on my 2004 and my friends 07 drives a little hursh.I like the firmness a little more on 4wd trd off road now and it's better suited to the pavement then again it's your choice drive them all. Trd Includes the a off road turned suspension and some tacky badging on the bed.
5. Back up sensors arn't worth the cost of admission if you gain Toyota Lame Navi system do yourself a favor and Skip that back up sensor option because you will have the back up cam on the factory navi and worth gaining that feature alone. Those back sensor not only look tacky on the rear bumper on the New Tundra but useless on real world applications. If you skip the 2k factory navi option go buy an aftermarket dual din Pioneer Navi aftermarket and use the 24/7 back up camera wile driving another great feature. Audio upgrades are needed on the Tundras As you will find many members have made complains on there Factory radio and ditched Toyotas Poor choices on having JBl you will know more once you receive your new Tundra how really Outdated the system really is feature wise.
6. Last of all Opinions are going to change with every member. Go test drive A new 2008 and check the features that best suits your need's and lifestyle on this Truck. The New Tundra will have a lot. I personaly would Go with the SR5 it's more valued Packed .The Limited is nothing more then a few more item's and Not Worth the added Cost of admission in my opinion. There is nothing special on the interiors either on a limited or Non limited other then The limited ac controls and Mem seat's with optitron gauge . Personally Wile the Limited might sound appealing to some I don't justify the Added Cost much less feel the truck is worth it.Another neat option is many features you like on a limited can be added on an SR5 plus you get to work on your truck and add custom options which add some curb appeal to your truck.
Cheers and Happy Holidays
Erik

The sunroof is Not standard on a Limited crewmax it's an option my friends Limited crewmax (pict above) didn't have that and His Friends shop added his and cut a Hole in his New truck..
"wouldnt get a sr5 because they look cheap inside compared to the limited ... but then again the limited cost alot more so its your decision"
The interiors are pretty much the same (limited and Sr5) Silver tone Dash Toyota used with the exceptions on the Limited having a Dital Ac control switch gear slighly different plus Homelink and other small detail's. Overall I wouldn't say those options are much of a deal breaker for me but more for Toyota to charge it. Limited's cost a few k more so if you justify the cost of a Limited More power to you.The Sr5 sells More then the limiteds and offer a better Overall Value .Don't forget the New "Tundra grade" el cheapo package for (08) Limiteds arn't Limiteds in the Number Made dam I wished Toyota would add a special Model Nobody else has.

Pretty much all your answers are above, but IMO I would go limited and never look back. I love mine. I don't have the crewmax, so I don't have the memory seats, which isn't a big deal because I don't let anyone else drive it. I do have the back-up camera and I consider it the best option available on my truck. I use it almost every time I park this whale.

I've been there, done that with buying the highest trim line. Truth be told, I'm not one for options and hardly use them (memory, homelink, sonar, cruddy "upgraded" system, etc). That's just my personality. I bought my SR5 after owning an LE Titan and still currently owning an Acura TL, and the only thing I've even come close to missing are heated seats...which I am installing this spring.
I've also found in my personal experiences that the luxury models lose their value faster. Their benefit is that people who buy used vehicles may find them more appealing because of the options. But it seems to me that dollar of worth versus dollar paid new, they depreciate quicker than a nicely optioned middle trim line.
Lastly, I've discovered that I can add (what I feel are) better quality aftermarket parts to an SR5 and make myself happier. I am much happier with my aftermarket leather, navigation, and sunroof than I would have been if I spent thousands of dollars on what Toyota forces you to choose.
Here's how I see it:
- Limiteds are a good buy for people that like options and don't want to mess with modifying a new vehicle.
- SR5s are better for people that either don't need the extra options, want a cheaper purchase price, or plan on adding their own mods after purchase.
Some people on this board make me laugh. They are actually HAUGHTY about buying a Limited? It's a vehicle!!! Sheesh. Mind you, there is a huge difference between loving your vehicle and trying to look down on others because of your vehicle. The funniest are snotty individuals bragging about their "fully loaded" Limiteds...that are 4x2! It's missing the most expensive option of all, yet they parade around like a vehicle makes the man... [Disclaimer - I'm not ragging on 4x2...one of my best trucks was 4x2. ]
Whew...I thought you were talking about ME!!! Until the 4x4 part. Im not trying to be HAUGHTY or look down my nose at any one. I was looking to buy and SR5 with limited options when they showed me mine and offered it to me for SLIGHTLY more than the SR5. The way I saw it...I didnt need the leather or navigation or upgraded stereo, but for 1500 more than what Id have to pay for the SR5....Hell, Ill bite !!!
