TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Just bought my first New truck at the age of 36!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
A 2008 timberland green dbl cab 4x4 long box tundra. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnice truck!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll see how it holds up as I am down grading(as far as gvw.) from a 1978 3/4 ton super cab 4x4 ford. I know the toyota is a 1/2 ton but It sure feels like a bigger truck.I own my own small contruction company along with living on an acreage with horses and cows .So time will tell as they say as to how the truck stands up .I did alot of research on this truck ,and wanted no part of any of the domestics.I am going to install either super springs or air bags to help increase the payload capacity.Any suggestions are much appr. thanx.p.s. all of your post have been a big help in the decision.
Re: Just bought my first New truck at the age of 36!
Sounds just like me. This is my first NEW vehicle ever and I'm 36. I also left the heavier truck, (93 Ford F250). I can tell you that the new Tundra does out pull the old Ford 460, and gets a whole lot better gas milage. I considered airbags on my truck until I put the trailer behind it and I now don't think that it needs them. It holds the trailer just fine, and pulls it better.
good luck with the new truck.

A lot of thumbs up for the airbags here on this site. You can actually see photos of them installed.
I don't think they'll work if you put a gooseneck hitch on the truck. I have been looking into airbags as well & it won't work. Unless firestone has modified there's.

haha, well I guess I'll continue the weirdness. While I've bought many cars in my life, and my wife has daily driven two new cars, at the age of 36 I bought my First new truck. I've alway bought used for myself.
I picked up my Tundra last Saturday 12/15/07 @ 36yo

well, odds are good that in your 30's yoiu have enough money to buy a new truck... surprising everyone is exactly 36 though... i'm 31 and it's my first new vehicle ever. i probably should have waiting until i was 36, at 31 i overspent a little... but that's ok.

I was 36 when I bought my first truck too. That was in 1990 and it was an extended cab Chevy short box. Hot pick-up at the time! I am 52 and just now buying my second new truck.
Re: Just bought my first New truck at the age of 36!
Major thumbs-up to you guys who waited until your mid-thirties to buy new trucks. I think it shows a lot of financial discipline that will serve you well in the future. There's nothing sweeter than riding around in something that you actually earned AND can easily afford.
It's also nice to have something incremetally better to look forward to in the future. If you have a great ride in your twenties, what is there to look forward to?
I was well into my thirties before I even realized that you could buy a vehicle even though you hadn't saved up the money for it. Whenever I looked at a car or truck that cost, say $25K, I always thought "Well, I'm going to have to save up $25K if I want to buy one of those." The idea of financing a vehicle never crossed my mind because, as far as I can tell, my parents never financed anything except for real estate.

Re: Just bought my first New truck at the age of 36!
Congrats on your new ride! I've had new vehicles since I was 19. I'm 42 now. 1st car payment was 72.00 a month. I've never had a car/truck longer than 5 years. However, this time around my two shop vehicles, including the Tundra I'll have till they fall apart. I'll be enjoying the .50 Cent per mile deduction I can take in 2008 when I drive 25-35K miles a year.
