TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Real World Gas Mileage", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Welcome to the club. So far I have driven over 4,600 miles city/highway and I get 15.8 miles per gallon. I only see 16.5 once a while if I stay on the highway most of the time.

as stated, keeping it at or below 70 is the only way to get 17 or better on the highway, and you can't leave every stop like you're in a race.
I've done the exact same trip to my parents place about 3 hours away about 10 times and gotten between 14 and 18 on the highway by changing my driving patterns just slightly. To get 18 I have to set the cruise at 70 and be very careful not to have to shut it off. That means timing the passes perfectly, not getting stuffed by someone passing me, etc. As little movement of the throttle as possible. I think I'll get it to 19 on the next trip and still make good time(average of 65-70mph) just be being careful about how the throttle is applied.
5.7 w/ 10000 miles and with flowmaster 70 true flow air filter also 20/285 tires. Dont know if its the chill from December or truck is getting loose but seems to be running stronger, actually chirped the tires hitting third last night!
15-16 rural. 17- 20 highway (65 or under) . 12-14 cruising 90+ . 12-14 pulling 5-8k lbs . Best measured 22mpg driving in Big Bend Park 45-50 mph. 0-2 WOT

I have just under 12K on mine. 10-12 city and 15-16.5 highway (usually around 70-75 mph). No matter how ginger I am on the pedal, city MPG is always 10-12.

That's about what I'm seeing. I only do in town driving and by the looks of the feedback, I appear to be to heavy on the pedal.

My 4x4 5.7L got 16.3 mpg over the first 1200 miles. I feel like it could have been a touch better, as during that initial period, I used sequential mode quite a bit.
I have a CM 5.7L TRD. In the summer I got 17-18 mpg city and 18-20 mpg highway. That depends on speed. In the winter I get 16-17 mpg city and 17-18 mpg highway. Mine dropped a couple with the winter temps and winter fuel blend. These are all hand calculated. The one thing that I have found that greatly reduces mpg is letting it idol. I try not to let mine idol at all. That includes warm up. When she is cold I start it and start driving (very easy) untell it is up to temps.
Yesterday I got 15.2 at 80. 18.1 at 70. I have the 5.7 4x4. Outside temp was 45 with no wind. 2600 miles on truck. For some reason, I could not stay at 70.
I have 21,000 and I am getting about 17-18 hwy and 15-16 city mixed, goes down to 10-12 towing depends on how big the load is. I have seen 20 but that was 2 lane 55 driving. I am sure I could get this on the interstate but I would rather run 70-75. FYI my milage has not changed since day one/ and mile one.
