anyone do the "anytime" foglight mod?

anyone do the "on anytime" foglight mod that the Tacoma owners do? I followed the instructions on how to do it for a Tacoma but it doesnt seem to be working for my Tundra. Im not sure if Im doing it wrong or if the Tundra is just wired differently.

From what I saw from the Tacoma threads the DENSO brand light blue foglight relay looks exactly the same for both trucks but now im thinking maybe the Tundra relay is wired differently even though its the same relay?

I really need the ability to turn on the fogs without the headlights because I have 3000k (yellow/gold) HID's in the fogs which I want to turn on independent from the headlights during heavy snow conditions. The HID's in my headlights, though great in rain and clear nights, dont do anything but reflect the falling snow back at me causing a white out.

I'm not sure of how to do it on the Tundra, but the main purpose is to get a 12V source supplied to the switched 12V prong on the fog light relay. The way the trucks are wired is that they receive power from the lowbeam relay when power is activated (you turn your headlights on)

What kind of switch is in the new Tundra to activate fog lights? Is the switch on the blinker stalk or is the switch on the dash? There might be more modification of that wiring to make the lights work too.

the foglight switch is on the blinker stalk. I tried to give +12v to both sides of the relay one at a time but no dice.

Looking at the bottom of the relay I gave +12V to both "I"s one at a time. I tried one side, no work, so tried the other side, no work either. The two "-" are supposed to be where the coil is.

My last ditch effort would be to wire an aftermarket switch to the fogs to run them totally seperate but i'd like to keep it stock looking if i can.

I'd like to know how to do this as well. Those Dodge drivers who have their fogs on are lucky. I was thinking of wiring the fog lead into the running light lead, so that they work together in series instead of having a separate relay....any thoughts????

Im not sure if there is even a relay for the running lights, since the current draw is not much compared to a headlight or foglight, but even if there was then Im thinking you would blow the running light relay becuase its not rated for the current draw caused by the foglights...

you would also blow the running lights fuse for sure. would have to up the amps on the fuse for sure

Post up some links to the mod for the Tacoma or more information (were this relay is and what not), there are alot of smart folks here that are pretty handy. I am sure this can be done with some testing and probing with a meter or just reading the schematics if someones got them too.

here is a link to the Tacoma section. They have 3 diff ways of doing the mod, all ending with the same results. I chose option 3 (last pic in first post) as it is the simpliest.

from page 2 of the technical diagram, it appears that the foglights should be able to turn on anytime the tailights are on...but we all know that is not the case. The headlights HAVE to be on for the fogs to turn on. wtf.

so from the diagram in the thread link posted by Ps-Rage.....

you can get the foglights to be on, but they will come on whenever your tailights come on...the foglight switch will be rendered useless..

well we are half way there I guess. Now we know how to get the foglights on WITHOUT the headlights...but we still want to be able to control them i.e. turn them off and on independant of the tail lights.

I guess I can cut the FFGO wire and then ground pin 2 on the relay while sticking a switch inbetween that wire and ground....but then that means i'd have to wire up a switch...I wanted to keep it stock looking.

SO, the next step to figure out is: what wires are connected to the foglight switch inside the stalk on the steering column? Can we find those wires under the dash and not have to take apart the stalk/column? If those wires can be found all we have to do is snip those ones and extend one of them thru the firewall to pin 2 of the relay and the other wire to ground.

so cut the FFGO wire (the one that goes to the ecu) at pin2 first. then follow the diagram below and the foglights will be controled by the factory switch and will work anytime the tail lights are on, so basically whenever the running lights are on.

So who know what color are the two wires that are running to the factory foglight switch and where to easily access them?

Yup, that's why I decided I didn't want to do this. If you were really ambitious, you could find the wire coming from the switch, cut and use it to create the FFGO signal
