TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Silver dash ideas?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Has anyone modified the silver dash on the driver's side? I have seen dash kits (e.g. carbon fiber) but wanted to see other creative approaches (paint, cover with leather, etc.) Please post pics if you have.

oooo, id love to wrap it in leather....too bad i dont know how.
I wouldn't know what color to paint it though. I have the tan interior, so it has a brown dash & tan trim w/ tan seats.
Don't know how good a tan color would look.
I do want to do something about it though. I'm not too excited about the molded dash kit cover things. I'd rather replace the whole thing, not just stick something over it.
anyone know who makes an acceptable paint to do something like this? I don't think I want to put Krylon on my $40/k truck interior.....
Krylon fusion works amazing! I painted my plastic around the shifter with it and it looks better than stock. I'm going to paint the rest of the driver's side dash flat black like I did the other piece. You just have to know how to use a rattle can

There's lots of different paints on the market, including some that come out in multiple flake colors (so it'd appear to have texture like the current silver dash does). I have access to a professional spary booth, and if I ever had time I'd like to paint the bumpers, front grill, silver part of the dash, rims, etc., but I guess it's just not importnat enough for me to find the time - That's what classic cars are for...
What is the process to remove the silver part of the dash? It seems that it may just pop off and that the gauge canisters can be detached but I don't want to break anything.
The whole piece pulls off. You must remove the screws on the bottom of the steering column to remove completely then reattach all the electronics plug and play type deal.
